Popular Post Golden Triangle
I saw this on the local news yesterday morning, the Mrs saw the aftermath of the accident when she was out exercising, the pickup driver really did a number on the cyclist, ironically the guy would probably be alive today if he had bothered to use the purpose built cycle/running track that was only a few metres away. Far too many cyclists take the risk of using the road and not what IMHO is a superb facility built specifically to avoid cyclists & traffic coming together. Everyday I see large groups using the road, it was only a matter of time before this occurred, RIP to the rider & I hope the drunken driver does a very long stretch. 5

The Thai men drink among themselves in the evening, almost all. It is their solution to accepting poorly paid hard work and maintaining a good mood. Then they return to their homes with uncertain behavior. And this is where the dramas happen. There are some smart solutions like the sober driver bringing everyone back and which has been successfully experienced in my own country. Maybe other solutions, but certainly not putting half the country in jail. Of course will putting drunk drivers in jail help. It sends a message and if enforcement is high enough the amount of drunk driving lowers. You can also implement the things you said at the same time. You can do both and should do both. Anyone who drinks (or uses drugs) and drives and kills or wounds someone should be in jail for a long time. Drunk driving not a jail sentence right away but a second time why not. But this will never happen as the cops just are not active enough about this.

He was pointing out that there is a very good paved cycling track right next to the road that was built for cyclists to use and to get them off the traffic road--which is a busy 2 lane road with lots of curves that can be dangerous for cyclists--even from non-drunk drivers. My partner and I are always remarking to each other why don't they use the cycling track when we see cyclists on the main road.

Those things often never get maintained after being built, get full of weeds etc and then motorbikes use them to drive both ways down the road. Two things that I used to enjoy in the UK, motorbikes and cycles, but not here, far too dangerous. I will stick to my car, boring though it often is and use the gym for exercise. My partner and I are always remarking to each other why don't they use the cycling track when we see cyclists on the main road. I was coming out of the 36/1 alley onto Sukhumvit (the one with the Radi Mansion) in my truck, and infront of me, riding Sukhumvit northwards, was a family of 4, dad at the front a young child, even a tyke followed by mom riding their own cycles, out for a trip, helmets, tight embarrassing pants etc. I had to wait till Mom got past else I would have split the group, which were a little bit too much apart. This must be the dumbest and most stupid place for them to be, where traffic wanting to get onto the motorway flyover, coming out of the tunnel and from the Klang junction merges and tries to swap lanes. Cyclists need to act with more sense.... the track around the lake is very safe for them and easy enough to get to. I am bloody nervous on Sukhumvit on my motorbike and get to the Railway Line Bypass as soon as I can... awful standard of impatient driving and many large vehicles racing for that 'about to change' light... or changed already 10 seconds ago. CharlieH
How many more times does it need to be said and proven. Until there is an effective Police force who actually enforce the law and are seen to be doing it, with REAL consequences to an action, then this senseless loss of life will continue. I hope the driver gets charged with vehicular manslaughter and its well publicised as a clear message to others. But I think we all know that wont happen.
