Police in Bangkok have made a quick arrest after two men were caught on CCTV stealing gold from the Yaowarat Krung Thep 2 shop in Big C Rattanathibet in Nonthaburi on Thursday.

The men in full face helmets stole 251 baht weight in gold necklaces and bracelets worth 6,500,000 baht and 80,000 baht in cash.

Arrested at a construction workers' camp in the Rama 3 area of the Thai capital on Friday were Toon, 37, and Khansorn or "Tote" aged 39.

In Toon's car under a seat police found about 200 baht weight in gold and two guns.

Sanook reported that Tote owed money for drugs to the tune of 20,000 baht and was initially hired only to case the joint.

But he wanted a bigger role so he could repay his debt and so was hired to take a full part in the robbery. Toon was the guy who vaulted the counter in the CCTV footage.

Toon was allegedly involved in a security van heist in Pathumwan in central Bangkok in 2015 but was acquited by a court.

Around 70 baht weight in gold and the cash remains missing, said Sanook.
