BANGKOK (NNT) - Rayong province has asked the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration for a special allocation of COVID-19 vaccine, citing repeated transmissions in the area.

The Governor of Rayong, Channa Ieamsang made the request this week, for a special allocation of COVID-19 vaccine to the eastern province.

In an urgent memo sent via the Ministry of the Interior, Rayong province requested for 4,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, citing the necessity to rebuild confidence in the province’s tourism sector, private sector, and to help boost the national economy, as the province is the site of the Eastern Economic Corridor, and U-Tapao International Airport receiving foreign tourists.

Rayong province has suffered three major incidents of COVID-19 transmission, starting in early-2020 with the original spread, then an incident involving an Egyptian air force officer, and the latest new wave of cases with new clusters found, leading to the province being declared a serious control area, a maximum disease control designation implemented following the new wave of transmission.
