Songkran in Thailand to go ahead next month - with some water splashing

Masks become useless when wet.

You either have Sonkran or you don’t.

There is no Songkran where you're masked, socially distanced, and miming water throwing.

If this actually is allowed to go ahead people will get a "release" alright.

Interesting, in the other Bangkok paper, Thiravat Hemachudha one of the directors of Chulalongkorn University was expressing his concerns about the decision to allow the festival to go ahead and also directly disputed the official figures of the 2 digit positive cases given daily by the CCSA. Citing 100 cases at just one plant in Samut Sakhon that have not been included.

providing activities comply with measures put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

A Thai with a water gun, will comply same much as a motorbike driver never drives on the wrong side of the street.

The great and benevolent leader has already insured happiness. Now, he is showing the vast purity of his heart, by allowing the people to celebrate, and have some fun.

He is lowering unemployment.

He is growing the economy.

He is doing everything in his power to open the country up again, and increase tourism revenue.

He is increasing exports.

He is abiding by all of the terms of the ASEAN charters he signed, and allowing the duty free importation of all beer throughout ASEAN. Bintang, Beer Lao, Bia Saigon, Bia Huda, Bia Ha Noi, Dagon, Saigon Special, 333, are on all of the supermarket shelves as we speak. We are not longer subject to the very low quality local beers, as promised in the recent ASEAN charter, that Thailand agreed to and signed.

He is making visa policy easy, simple and streamlined, and all tourists are very happy about that. He is working on the attitudes of government workers, and making sure they are open and friendly to both tourists, and ex-pats.

He is improving traffic and public safety.

He is working day and night to eliminate the air quality issues, that have become a catastrophe for the nation.

Corruption is being eliminated, and innocent fall guys are no longer getting charged for murder, and being put to death.

The taxi mafia on Samui and Phuket have been eliminated, and tourists can now get a taxi at a fair price. They are also adding multiple options of cheap public transportation on the Southern islands.

Life is better for all now that this great man is demonstrating his genius and vision on a daily basis. All he cares about is the welfare of his own people, and the happiness of both tourists and the ex-pat community. He contemplates this day and night.

You forgot to mention about the price of lottery tickets being sold at face value.

Pity I was hoping they would do the same as last year

Break up the Songkran days into more long weekends

And no water getting splashed over people

Mind you if they  restrict it to areas like Khaosam Road in Bangkok

Can go with that

What a shame.

I was hoping this country was becoming civilised but

the festival of death is back.

Good news for the undertakers who will make a fortune out of the many deaths.

Now the bookmakers will be able to add another option to  their guess the number of dead people wager.

1. Death from car crash

2. Death from Covid  Super spreader events.

Thailand  is going to  be open just in time for the  Covid virus variants that are  more infectious and deadly than the original Chinese  version. The China vaccine they are betting on won't protect the people.

I usually just left the country for a week or two during this festival of state-sanctioned bastardry - unfortunately that's not an option now.

By all means limit it to defined areas (which I could avoid) - but there is nothing "fun" about having a bucket of (dirty) water thrown over you as you try and get home with your shopping.

If you don't like the festivities do your shopping before and stay home nobody tells you to come out during these days . You know there is 1 week a year of this and then you will not see it for another year . If you can't stand that you shouldn't have come to this country in the first place , it's their new years celebration .
