Former deputy transport minister Thaworn Senneam said he was proud of his work under transport minister Saksayam Chidchob especially when it came to working with the Department of Airports to develop provincial airports.

The Songkhla MP said that 70 billion baht had been assigned to develop 29 airports between 2018 and 2027.

Work had already begun at airports in Betong, Narathiwas, Trang, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Krabi, Surat Thani, Chumphon, Hua Hin and Mae Sot utilizing 14.6 billion baht.

But more was on the way to create regional hubs that would connect to the outside world and other places in Thailand.

He said that airports in the provinces were on their way to being "Smart Airports" that would benefit people in the provinces by improving connectivity.

He hoped this would continue as it was money well spent.

He compared the 70 billion baht to the 120 billion being spent on just one train line in Bangkok - the Orange Line.

Slush trough replenished.

Yep. Ministry of Transport one of the bigger troughs after the military, obviously. That's why the elder chidchob got this for BJT throwing in with the regime.

Who can forget  Suphoth (Supoj) Sublom? I mean who doesn't keep close to a billion baht in their home? His crime: he didn't pay upwards as required.

all those airports are in the south - that's from where this politician came from. That is very lopsided  development.

Planes are suppose to connect far away provinces, nobody is going to fly to a neighbouring one, anywhere within 200-300km.

Since the pandemic there is not any sense developing airports, as not many are flying.

I don't understand why this minister first public statement, after his jail conviction two weeks ago, is about his successes.

He should apologise publicly about his wrongdoing.

He should not dare to propose any policies.

Shameless goon

Why are they bothering to upgrade NST airport?

The only real use for it was the Chevron helicopter hangar and that will be completely closed in a few months.

Wrong, Chevron is all but a small factor. Airport is designated International, for this to happen they must finish the new terminal which is underway now. As for flight numbers, prior to the second wave of Covid there was 36 movements a day,

Nakhon Si Thammarat population is 1.56 million, plus they have the famous

https://thailandtourismdirectory.go.th/en/info/attraction/detail/itemid/1036 which attracts up to 10K visitors a day.

Flight movments today:

hardly a backwaters airport.

What's the point of having smart airports if you don't have smart airlines ?  If Thai go down the gurgler, which they seem determined to do,  then it will be mostly for Air Asia and Nok Air to use.

You obviously haven't read my post and attachments. World does not exist only around Bangkok & Thai airways.

Nok Air, Air Asia, Thai Viet Jet, Lion Air & for the time being Thai Smile so that's 5 Airlines that use this airport to both main airports in Bangkok.
