SSD upgrade but no noticeable improvement

Did you replace one SSD drive with another SSD drive?

Another thing to consider:  Even though he has an Ethernet cable plugged into his computer, is his computer actually *using* the Ethernet cable?  Something might be twitched up and he's still limited to WiFi speeds because he's actually connecting to his modem/router via WiFi.

• Press the "Windows Key" -- usually between the left-hand <Ctrl> and <Alt> keys:                   
• Type in "Control Panel" and <enter>
• Click on "Network and Internet" (this step *might* not be necessary)
• Click on "Network and Sharing Center"
• Click on the name of the "Connections:"

• You should see something like this:

 

What does the speed say on yours?  If it says 1 Gbps, you are indeed on a Gigabit LAN connection.  But if it says something in the 100s, look at the title bar of that window and see if it says "Wi-F- Status" like mine does above.

What seems slow to me is the opening of new tabs, ie if I want to open a new tab in Thai Visa it can take as long as 30 seconds. I also use a site named Torrent Galaxy for torrents, and it can be very slow to open a page and then go back a page. Same on Bittorrent, when I have to open Destination Folder, it can take at least 30 seconds. Now maybe the slowness problems are totally unrelated to my SSD, or the HDD prior, but all I'm saying was the advice given that installing a SSD was going to be some kind of miracle cure. I admit I know sweet FA about computers, other than being able to perform basic search and download functions, and there may be something else slowing down my computer like an Adblock. You are listing web site issues for tab openings - everything to do with provider/circuits so SSD is not going to speed that up.  Using a third party DNS server might help as there is nothing wrong with your speed tests (even if lower than advertised they are far better than most people) but as said before a clean install might also need to be done as you are accessing some very iffy sites which could have loaded all kinds of .... onto your computer.  You have to be especially careful of torrent sources - they can be as bad as porn for malware.  Someone has offered to help you so would take him up on the offer.

Did you look in the task manager - CPU usage and memory usage? Did you try Google Chrome? The link that I sent you is for the portable version. So it will not install but run directly from the folder where you put it. If you need any help we this let me know it. But of course you can install the normal (not portable) version too.

 Do you use different Browsers ? I have 4 [all have the same contents on them]  My 1st browser is Chrome, some sites open far faster if I use the AVG Browser, others if I use Opera,  very very rare I use M$ Edge,  after time you know which one to use on different web addresses ..

 

As for fitting a SSD my OS opened far far faster than the HDD drive

Edit: also depends on Ram [memory] + Speed of these memory sticks

That's true. This website is a very bad one to try and benchmark one's internet performance on.

 

From the OP's latest comments, it does appear that his browser may be polluted.

 

If that's the case, maybe the OP can try another browser. If Chrome and Firefox are already in use and both are similarly afflicted, check that the latest versions have been installed.

 

If both are current versions, try another browser like Opera of, if push comes to shove, Edge.

 

If trying a new browser, do not allow it to copy bookmarks and the like from other resident browsers and don't make it the default browser either.

The problems often comes when you download files or during a web site compromise.  Never click executable file downloads is basic safety.

Do you have any adblocks for TG? Using Chrome is definitely a lot faster than Firefox for Torrent Galaxy. Thanks.

Are you permanently running a torrent program (bittorrent client, e.g. uTorrent, vuze) while you are using your computer "normally"?

I never used that site so have no knowledge.  But know YTS has been hacked forever it seems with new tab opening as well as what you selected - so have to close the spam tab and not click on anything.  Expect many others are having same issues.

Bittorent is easy and quick for downloads, but if it's slowing down my PC then I'll only use it when I have to.

I recently took on 3BBs TV box (load of rubbish) but the first thing they did was to replace the router, free of charge.
