PHUKET:-- A veil of silence has been dropped on the investigation into an accident last month that involved a drunken Phuket police officer who tried to flee the scene in his car after hitting one car, sending it colliding into another car in front.

Immediately after the incident came to light, only after a video was posted online, Phuket Provincial Police Chief Maj Gen Pornsak Nuannu confirmed that he had ordered Thalang Police Chief Lt Col Phisit Chuenphet to investigate the incident.

The officer involved in the incident, Lt Nikorn Songkhao, is assigned to the Thalang Police, Gen Pornsak explained.

Misunderstanding.........all just a misunderstanding in the land of misunderstandings. As running away from an accident, especially when intoxicated, then turning up when sober is standard operating procedure in this country, he only thought he was doing what is laid down in the law books.

Yes, this sort of thing only happens in Phuket!

Luckily, the rest of Thailand is crime free and policed by saints, so there are plenty of safe places to holiday elsewhere for the terminally timid.

Ah, the thread is about Phuket in case you did'nt notice! No need to apologize! I've booked my next holiday to Amnat Charoen.

The thread is about yet another drunken Thai cop trying to elude consequences, not about the specific location.  Do you really believe it only happens in one province?  Do you think it likely that such incidents get reported on in Phuket more because there are several high profile English language media outlets based there reporting on every minor incident?

Perhaps Police crime seems to be non existent where you are because it remains invisible.

Is this incident sufficient for yet another whinger to equate it with tourism safety and call for boycotts?

Yes...I am totally naive when it comes to police and places in Thailand...please keep us up to date with your superior knowledge.

My gf’s nephew was involved in an accident ( actually more of an incident ) involving a drunk off duty police.

He was pillion on his friends mc, sat stationary across the road from a busy downtown market  in a small town near Nakhon Sawan. The driver , apparently a snap decision, veered towards the kerb to park near the two boys on the mc. He misjudged it completely ( or brake failure ) and hit the rear of the mc , the bike was catapulted forward, first boy managed to hold on to the handlebars and eventually fell sideways with the bike. The nephew was left in mid air as the bike and rider shot out between his legs. The momentum caused him to do a half somersault and he hit the road chin first !!

An ugly mob gathered round and the drunk ( off duty ) cop was saved by his wife.

The police came and took him away.

The nephew had to have reconstruction surgery on his jaw and several teeth needed implants.

The cop paid 50k and rumoured to be working as normal.

to have a corrupt government you have to have a corrupt police department and judges other wise some people in the government would be locked up, a very common thing

I’m pretty sure the army is number one in that respect, but with the police close on their heels.

So you were aware that incidents such as the one in this thread do occur elsewhere.

What was the actual purpose of your attempt to slur the Phuket tourism industry?

Perhaps in your confident journey through these pages you could acquaint yourself with sarcasm from a direction other than outwards.

Phuket cops fleeing car accidents and shooting noodle vendors, sounds like a good, safe place for a holiday!

Sadly, this is nothing unusual.  The island needs a clean up, but this has been said for years and years.

Holiday ??? You mean Quarantine don’t ya (which means treated like a prisoner on landing - IF you have the right documents that nobody knows what are correct)
