take heart: it's the choking season haiku contest ... everyone (cough) is a winner !

Important  caution: you can only lose if you do not play.

Each  haiku*  submitted  is a homeopathic inoculation against that most deadly side-effect of the toxic air we breathe, loss of  sense of  humor. Scientific studies  have shown the  powerful  correlation  of loss of sense of  humor and a wide variety of psychosomatic phenomena including compulsive  complaining,  in-grown smile,  fantasies of necrophilia and cannibalism, glossolalia while sleep-walking leading to attacks  by soi-dogs, etc.

Here's your first  jab:

i am all choked up,
not because you're leaving me:
it's Chiang Mai spring air

*  by haiku we  mean some  kind of three line anything where one line has seven syllables, and, the other  two have five syllables

Congratulations to  canthai55 and Sticky Rice Balls  ...  our first two winners  !

You may wonder if the suggested syllable lengths for the three line entries are "rules:"  we can only reply that in the face of such artistic charisma  our "rules" are  as flexible,  as frequently changing, as ... immigration law, and the weekly/daily "get the touri$t$  back here" initiatives of Expatria's officialdom.

Special awards for canthhai55 for the  darkly existential climax of  "Arise Dead Horse Arise," and to  Sticky Rice Balls for his nuanced  use of metric structure and rhyme suggestive of the venerable Limerick school of poetry !

            the sky is falling,

            the princess is comatose:

            chiang mai fairy tales ?

            ~

            poisonous pieces

            of toxic air are falling:

            throw a songkran party ?

Isn't Haiku 5-7-5?

Seems like any old three phrase whatever is allowed here, right?

                      five-seven-five is

                      just a movable goalpost:

the game is beyond rules !
