3,000 year-old skeletons found in Ang Thong

 

 

A 54 year old villager in Si Bua Thong sub-district, of Ang Thong province has found 3,000 year-old skeletons, apparently mummified, wrapped in shrouding and tied with ropes.

 

The skeletons were covered with soil, which had solidified into a form of rock. Ancient bowls were also placed on top of the skeletons. Three similar skeletons were also found right next to his house.

 

The villager revealed that he lives opposite of the fields where, last year, ancient items and skeletons were also found, to a point where the Fine Arts Department sent their officials to excavate the area. At the time, five skeletons were recovered, along with a number of ancient items.

At my age, my eyesight is perhaps equivalent to that of a 2500+ year old person. Ha!

 

Anyhow, those look like tools (spear head, axe head, etc.) in the picture. Where are the bones?

Which is total BS (that he's allowed to do that). He's ruined the site so now it will be difficult, if not impossible, to properly determine what the site was (graveyard or battlefield or a massacre for example), who those people were (i.e. ancient Mon or Lao or Tai people), whether they were ritually buried or dumped in an open hole, were any of "high status", were they buried individually or in groups (i.e. family burial), were they positioned in any specific way (i.e. all with their heads to the North, with certain artifacts placed in certain positions around the bodies).
Saying they were "mummified, in shrouds tied with ropes" ? Hmmmm. 
There is so much information that can be learned from how and where the skeletons were found. 

For example, they say these are 3,000 year old skeletons and that bronze bowls were found with them. The Bronze Age in Thailand just started 2,500 years ago. The earliest known bronze artifacts (previously know) have been dated to 2,100 years ago, which is also when the earliest (known) Bronze Age grave is dated to as well.

This would be a hugely significant archeological find if the skeletons and artifacts actually are 3,000 years old.

It would predate the site in Ban Chiang by 900 years ! Not to mention that it would be about 430 kms SE of that site (a significant distance in ancient times). If it is real, it would dramatically change a lot scholarly thinking about how ancient people migrated into Central Thailand and when. 

I sure hope the authorities don't go back and find that the farmer had all those skeleton cremated "for religious reasons".

If you dig up buried bodies of 3000 year old corpses, you're a revered academic and showered with accolades and rewards.
