Thailand’s porous borders: 33 illegal immigrants nabbed on route to Samut Sakhon

Prachuap Khiri Khan senior official Kittipong Sukphakkul revealed to Sanook that 33 illegal immigrants from Myanmar were arrested in operations earlier this week.

 

The Department of Provincial Administration working alongside police and the military apprehended 25 Myanmar nationals who had sneaked across a natural border into Thailand.

 

They were caught hiding in a palm oil plantation in Khao Lak, Aoi Noi on Thursday.

 

They were due to be picked up by agents for delivery to a factory in Pranburi and the Mahachai central shrimp market.

 

The market was the epicenter of Thailand's second wave of the pandemic that has further devastated the country and its economy. 

 

Much of the outbreak was blamed on illegal migrants from Myanmar. 

 

On Friday morning 8 illegal Myanmar migrants were caught about to return home to their country.

What happened to the strict border controls from immigration, police & Army, no doubt taking a nap,  also what happened to the newly acquired drones, no doubt been sold on the market stalls..

Now that Trump is out of a job, it may be worthwhile securing his services to disign and build a WALL!

since october the border police are in bangkok, in tens of thousands, watching protests. They are the roughest dogs in royal thai police, bred in the jungles.

might be one of the reasons why burmese were able to come to samut sakhon in larger numbers in autumn, causing the second wave. 

 

in any case, the government is investigating hundreds of officials involved in trafficking. Without their help illegal border crossings would be much lower. When mafia transport is busted, they can always resort to paying themselves off. So the workers and drivers are arrested, but not the bosses.

So far one spectacular arrest of one trafficker in samut sakhon was made in february. Probably she was just a pawn, because transports in both directions are still going on - as per examples above

The blame falls squarely on the agents helping them to come in, and Thai factories giving them employment.

It's a two-way street, if there's nothing for them when they get here they won't come !!!

Why didn't the police set a trap, catch the agents,then let them continue to the factories & nail the factory owners?
