Video: Caught on tape! Thai restaurant on Koh Larn fined 2,000 baht for polluting the sea

A post on the Facebook page of a tourist called Thanawut Mingkhwan showed the moments four staffers from a Koh Larn beachside restaurant brazenly tipped waste into the sea. 

The poster said: "I was just about to take a dip. Forget that after seeing this.

"That's really terrible but who wants to swim after seeing that?"

He claimed it was food waste that had polluted the beautiful sea in the island off Pattaya that has been opened again after a lockdown closure.

This damning footage had the Thai authorities swinging into action with the police and local chiefs descending on the Chaliang Lom Restaurant and it's owner Apinan Changreuang, 36.

As reported by Daily News, Apinan came up with his excuses.

He denied that it was food waste saying that it was sea water used to keep crabs for sale in his restaurant.

The water was changed every day, he said.

He accepted a fine of 2,000 baht and apologized. 

The authorities had intended to fine him according to Article 33 related to putting polluted waste in the sea but opted after hearing his explanation to go for Article 25 related to waste water.

Another non-story to prove the rule of law is still being enforced.  No one believes it - the proof is obvious both on every road where the law is ignored and at the side of roads where rubbish is routinely tipped.

Add 3 more zero's and enforce it and you might just be sending a further message, but 3 zero's less means repeat, repeat, repeat.

Never been there, and judging by this hotels actions on their own doorstep I don't think I'll be going anytime soon.

You'd think they'd want to take care of their surroundings and even upgrade it to promote business, but I suppose this is the usual Thai way.

I see they want to open up Maya bay... guess they want to destroy that again.
