Siam Rath reported that Area Hotel Quarantine will begin in Pattaya on April 1st, subject to Covid-19 authority approval.

Here's how it will work:

After the tourists arrive in Thailand they are given Covid checks. Then they will be taken to their AHQ for the next 15 days.

But they will only need to be in their rooms for the first three days. After that they are free to move around the hotel grounds.

When the two weeks have passed they are free to visit the rest of Thailand, after undergoing two more health checks that is.

Pattaya's mayor Sontaya Khunpluem said that the city had been following everything Covid related to the letter.

This included a pro-active testing program, surveys of the populations, community inspections and the ensuring of the adherence to all Covid related protocols.

A vaccine rollout was underway and soon the elderly and chronically sick would be eligible. He had also asked for names from tourism operators for those to be vaccinated first.

He said that 20 hotels had applied to be part of the Area Hotel Quarantine program with their participation to be decided by the Chonburi CCSA Covid steering committee.

The only question that remains to be answered is the most vital one, however, notes Thaivisa.

Will any foreign tourists be coming to Pattaya two weeks on Thursday, April 1st?

I really don't see what the difference is to staying in a Bangkok located hotel or one in Pattaya, if one is locked in the room and maybe allowed out like the cat near the end of that period. Important factors are how good the room and room service is, and the hotel facilities.... Bangkok would seem to have the upper hand there. Transporting people who have just landed and possibly infected is a danger and the distance should be minimized.

After 15 days perhaps I can wait on a 2 hour trip from Ekamie or a nice taxi ride.

Friends and family can drop off goodie bags for you at reception.  Not easy to do if they're ~ 100 miles away.

Yes, good point if that is where your friends and family are.  I just see more sense not transporting potentially infected people around too much.
