Beer is expencive in thailand because thai.s dont realy drink beer.Unless it is being bought for them.They drink some form of whiskey.

Domestic beer in Thailand is cheaper then Domestic beer in most other countries! This article is about imports! 

Buying a bottle of domestic beer in Thailand at a restaurant is also quite cheap, as the price of the beer doesn’t get marked up as high as it would in many other countries.

Usually 110 baht ($3.56) will get you a bottle (0.33L) of most of the Thai domestic beers.

I argue Thailand is the most expensive beer country in the world. If you take buying power into account.

I did some research a while back comparing a few different countries:

How many % of a daily minimum wage does the cheapest supermarket beer cost? Thailand turned out to be nearly 30 times more expensive than Germany ???? .. and 9 times more expensive than Norway which has the highest alcohol taxes in Europe. Its bizarre. And don't get me started on craft beer or fine wines which would be a lot worse. You have to work a full day to buy one pint of craft beer in Thailand..

Not only is it relatively expensive, it is ridiculously low quality. Most of the neighbors make better beer. Frankly, a teenager with little experience could probably make better beer. It is due to a stunning amount of corruption, that allows to companies to make nearly all the beer here, and stifles the tiny craft beer upstarts.

 

The opposition that Future Forward was up against is a military-backed, hardline government that supports the duopoly with strict regulations that allow it to control over 99% of Thailand’s estimated 180 billion baht ($5.8 billion) beer industry. The duopoly was originally made untouchable with the first Thai Liquor Control Act in 1950, a law which has been amended several times since to push legality even further out of reach of any small brewer.

Super market prices in Spain! 9 Bht. For German beer, Thai beer we had (export quality natural like German) 12 Bht. Very good bottle of wine 105 Bht.  Look up at Lidl, Carrefour, Mercadona, Al campo, Aldi. Etc. Rest of shopping, far cheaper then in LOS. Same as renting an apartment on or near the beach.

Everything is expensive in Thailand that is why I live in Australia.I have written blogs on this topic before.In Thailand wine is crazy prices and Western food at Supermarkets is far more expensive.Local street food is cheapb50/100 baht beer at supermarket around 50 baht i think same as take away prices as Dan Murphy.So what has Thailand got to offer for retirees?

I wrote about this over a year ago.

The last time I was down on khaosan road in a bar with the terrible music blasting out i realised the bottle of Tiger i was drinking cost more than the pint of Guinness i had in London Heathrow airport.

And to all the "in the supermarket and 7/11 it's only 40bht" I can big bottles of decent quality Greene King IPA for £1 (42.9 bht) in my local UK supermarket.

And don't get me started on the wine situation...

I think Thailand as a cheap holiday destination for average westerner like me is long gone, I imagine after the crisis the flights will be very expensive too.

I've come to the realisation that i will probably never return again.

Obviously pub/bar and supermarket prices are different.

I have literally paid less for a bottle of Chang beer from an Asian market near my previous home outside of Dallas Texas then what I pay for it here. America honors its free trade agreement with Thailand, the Thai government not so much on items imported from America. I see items are priced 300%-600% higher in Thailand than what we pay in America.
