AVR for 5.5KVA Genset

My DOING model DFB5500SS diesel genset would appear to have an output voltage stability problem.

The company DOING doesn't seem to be at its old web address and neither is the contact address contactable.

Last night during and extended power outage (over 5 hr) my genset voltage was varying from 200V to 230V. The load was one air con, a TV plus router and a couple of aquaponic pumps. So probably not even 10 A.

So I need to check out the AVR and hopefully if the board is faulty buy a replacement board. Bit too busy at the moment to fault find a board.

So anyone know of a company that I can give the model of the genset etc and they may have a replacement board?

Not directly, but if you have a local farm machinery specialist they may be able to help.

It's also worth taking a photo of the regulator board (many are standard) and whilst you have the lid off clean the slip rings and check the brushes.

Thanks Shaemus for your posts. I suppose you are in this field, so I would like to ask you another question about installing a auto start module in my genset.

I was going to source one from the UK, but their web site is out of action and they don't respond to email.

There seem to be many auto start modules for sale from China but I don't know anything about them and there's not much info on the web sites.

Have you had any experience with the Chinese modules and could you recommend one?

My diesel genset is a DOING 5.5 KVA unit. Feeding a transfer switch, on manual in the house. I have wires extended from the changeover switch to the diesel so it's just a matter of installing an auto start module.

Just had a reply from the UK gen mob and they are closed until April, could have put that on the website instead of pulling the pin.

So am going to stick with the unit from there. Posted about 5th April when website opens again.

Thanks

i am just about to embark on a similar project as i have just bought a 40KVA genset which will be shipped over in the coming months. Unfortunately my genset is the manual type but can easily be converted into the more modern controller type. I was warned away from cheap Chinese controllers by the service company which i used to look over and service my Set, but they do have a vested interest in selling controllers.

there is a brand of controllers from the UK called Deapsea electronics (https://www.deepseaelectronics.com/genset) which i encounter regularly on Gen sets at work.

They have a very broad range and the simple controllers for which i assume you are looking for. they have plenty of functionality which you will need to match to your requirements and what your genset actually has in terms of instrumentation. i did google your model number but didn't get much back in terms of specs, but just an old TV thread with a link to the manufactures web site which was defunct.

what engine/motor do your have in the unit? i am guessing its a single cylinder diesel

What instruments are on the current control panel? i.e oil temp, oil pressure,

what throttle control do you have? manual / servo.

i believe you would need a battery charger to be installed to keep things topped up.

nothing to extraordinary really, and i sure you would nt be the first to do it

Hi, thanks very much for the reply.

About 7 years ago this guy imported a container load of desiel engines from China, so bought one. New nothing about them.

Since then DOING the brand name and a South African email contact have gone. Contact was pretty hopeless anyway, Cross from the electrical forum has been my main help.

Model: DFB55005S. 5.5 KVA and 22.5 A if I remember, lucky to get 12 A.

Only instrumentation is a volts meter and a couple of lights.

The single phase genset feeds a three phase HYCQ5M -100/L.P. transfer switch.

The auto start module I was going to get is: AECM103FBSL from GenControl in the UK.

Crossy put me into them and he also purchased one of these units for his genset.

Just found out that GenControl will be back on the air again April 5th I think so will probably get the unit from them but expensive at £100 odd.

I thought I posted this to TV but don't see it.

I've got a problem with a stable genset output at the moment and was thinking of trying to buy a new control/AVR circuit board to replace it. Crossy also suggested to check the slip rings and brushes while I'm at it, good advice.

I'll have a look at your deapseaelectronics link.

Thanks very much again.
