As far as I know in respect of Google they don't care about the keywords anymore. They generate their own.

If you want to prevent Google from lowering the ranking of a web site - such as Thaivisa - avoid displaying "bad words" like "c..r..a..p..." by sticking an umlaut on the "a" or an accent.

I believe Thaivisa already has their own way of avoiding this down-ranking issue by changing words like cräp to <deleted>. ????

If that were true, there's a lot of companies wasting money on optimised content right now so I'm inclined to think it isn't. Even if they generate their own keywords, they'd have to be based on the content on the websites so there'd still be keywords and phrases to aim for, if you see what I mean.

I see what you mean. But Google reads the whole text and doesn't care about these keywords. It is a better idea to organise the content of your website in a way so that Google recognises what is really relevant. For this you might need some advise.
