Just like with passports, you're supposed carry the blue book with you when you're out. My wife told me to never, ever bring the blue book with me unless I selling the vehicle. It's too easy from the crooks to sell your vehicle if it gets stolen. Just saying... As @AgMech Cowboy wrote above me - of the vehicle is stolen with the blue/ green book it can easily be sold and ownership transferred. You only carry the book to renew registration or sell the vehicle.
