webfact
Public health officials in Chonburi reported 23 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The majority of the new cases were discovered in Sri Racha and are almost all linked to the cluster at entertainment venues in Bangkok. 18 of the new cases had visited entertainment venues in Bangkok, with 13 being Thai nationals and 4 being Japanese nationals. One other case was a Thai who works at an entertainment venue in Bangkok. There was one other case of a Thai national not linked to the group but who also works in Bangkok. Another two cases were people from Samut Sakhon province who had also visited the Bangkok Motor Show recently at the Impact Challenger Hall in Muang Thong Thani. Chonburi health officials also announced they are waiting on results of 116 tests carried out on people who had been in contact with the people who had already tested positive. Meanwhile, people in Sri Racha and Banglamung districts, which includes Pattaya, will be invited for testing in the next couple of days and follows a similar move by officials in Bangkok who on Monday were offering free tests to people on Sukhumvit Soi 10. The news comes as the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration on Monday announced the closure of 196 entertainment venues in the capital. In Chonburi, people are advised to continue wearing masks, practicing social distancing and remember to check in to locations with the MoChana or Thai Chana apps. No restrictions on venues are currently in place in Chonburi although this may change if the COVID-19 situation worsens. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-04-06 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

robblok
They closed it down in BKK, so only natural they will (if more cases emerge) close Pattaya down too. Can't wait for songkran and see the spread. Its going to be bad.

Spread from Bangkok to Chonburi, what more evidence do they need that Songkran travel is a disaster waiting to happen. 4

Good idea, but why allow the hordes to travel all over the country for songkran? It will be a major disaster, never mind wanting to make people happy, better they unhappy but virus free.
Popular Post smedly
Bangkok should have been locked down days ago with travel restrictions enforced - this is now already spreading to other provinces and next week there will be a mass exodus from Bangkok Pattaya administration should be locking down the city and stop people travelling here but instead they are encouraging it - how stupid is that

chilly07
Changed my mind. Small island in the gulf too good for them. Rubber dingy without outboard or paddles off Indonesian pirate island may still be too good for them but they deserve a modicum of sympathy. Unless of course they are panicking and trying to get vaccinated? Sonkranq madness should be cancelled!

Make a baht today, don't worry about tomorrow. Allowing travel over Songkran could see everything in lock down again 6 weeks later. It's a ridiculous risk to be taking. lemonjelly
Good grief, tens of thousands of BKK residents about to pack into aircon buses to the provinces to visit families. Is the air in those aircon buses recycled?.... hope not.

I do expect passengers will be wearing masks though, pulling them down to use their phones frequently, and no seats will be left vacant.

I don't think it is so much to do with people being happy Colin, a lot of the connected people will make a lot of money with all these people traveling, and it's these people who help to keep the unelected "PMs" bank account up. champers
NYE was cancelled at short notice, so should Songkram. BP front page headline today "Songkram travel gets nod". Will set the tourist industry back for months.

Allowing travel for Songkran seems so crazy that that the only other reason for it is it's strategic. Perhaps they know the spread is so significant that they are allowing Songkran travel in order to spread the infected throughout different provinces where the various medical facilities may be able to cope, and where is easier to control media coverage. Thailand is all about "image" not reality. They would not want scenes of mass death in the capital, Bangkok. On 4/7/2021 at 3:54 PM, champers said: Will set the tourist industry back for months.
