The lack of winds and more smoke from fires in Laos were keeping the situation bad. The white particles in the air could be seen with the naked eye they claimed. Meanwhile Manager reported the health department as saying that tourists and locals in Chiang Mai should all be monitoring the hazardous conditions. Picture: Sanook People should all wear masks and monitor both their own health and the readings of the pollution from the authorities. Earlier reports from the Thai Hoteliers' Association suggested that few tourists were planning to be in the north during the Songkran holidays. One of the main reasons for that was the fact that Chiang Mai has been one of the most polluted cities in the world recently. The wind direction has been from the north west which is Myanmar not Laos. On Tuesday the air quality has been much better but as soon as the rain abates the numbers rise. Prayuth promised us last year that it would all be sorted out within days but he has apparently forgotten this! As it should be, and incredibly just two days ago it was listed as most polluted city on the planet! Stargeezr Posted April 8, 2021 Share Posted April 8, 2021 I did enjoy the scenery of Chiang Mai and area years ago when I visited in December. the near 0c in two days was a bit of a shock, but the air was clear. I still prefer being near the ocean though, as I live near the mountains and, as my one Thai Canadian friend says, of mountains, if you seen one, you"ve seen them all. 555. good luck with your smoky problem.
