Thailand braced for infections spike after detecting UK COVID-19 variant

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand has detected at least 24 cases of the coronavirus variant B.1.1.7 first identified in Britain, a government health expert said on Wednesday, its first known domestic transmission of the highly contagious variant.

BMA considers field hospitals as health officials warn COVID-19 infections may increase exponentially

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the Ministry of Interior and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to arrange space for the setting up of a field hospital in Bangkok, in case COVID-19 infections increase beyond the capacity of the capital’s regular hospitals.

Proposals to build bridge over three way intersection at Tha Yang, Phetchaburi

Thais advised to stay home for Songkran to limit spread of COVID-19 UK strain

Thailand’s top virologist, Dr. Yong Poovorawan, has expressed his concern that the UK strain of COVID-19, which is now linked to the Thonglor cluster and is spreading through Bangkok and several other provinces, will spread more rapidly during the Songkran festival and may mutate into a local strain that is difficult to eliminate.

Chonburi records 40 more COVID-19 infections related to entertainment cluster

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand is considering closing entertainment venues in Bangkok and 40 provinces, its COVID-19 taskforce said on Thursday, as authorities rushed to tackle a new wave of coronavirus cases and the arrival of a highly contagious variant.

Farmers subjected to water fees for second farming cycle in year

Thai consumer spending may fall $3.2 billion on new COVID-19 outbreak

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's consumer spending may drop up to 100 billion baht ($3.2 billion) if a new coronavirus outbreak lasts for two months, possibly sinking the economy in the current quarter, a commerce university said on Thursday.
