Daily News reported from Government House as the latest outbreak of Covid-19 - now being referred to as the third wave - continued to spread.

They were told by national security chief Natthaphol Nakhphanich that CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin would announce new measures at 11.30 am today (Thursday).

Expected to be announced are new designations of the color of zones and greater difficulty in moving from one province to another.

Meanwhile the same media directed questions to Thai prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha after he officiated at the opening of a new section of the Bang Pa-in to Korat road.

When pressed that some doctors were saying that the spread of the UK strain of Covid would be 100 times worse than the old one with people free to travel back home for Songkran he said that whatever will happen will happen.

He said it was a matter involving a lot of people and the government needs to find an answer that satisfies the people's desire to be with their families, the needs of expanding the economy and the spread of the virus.

He said that each province has their screening methods, Daily News reported.

When he had been on the stage he had said that imposing lockdown would be "easy" but he did not want to do that.

He called for the people to love the military and the police - without that there is nothing.

If things go wrong tell us and the government will sort it, he said.

The comments clearly indicated the pressure that the Thai PM now finds himself under, notes Thaivisa.

"he said that whatever will happen will happen"

Unfortunately, the ship has sailed and many are already traveling. Just picked up a friend from the Chiang Mai airport on his way home to Hang Dong.  Airport looked full and he said his flight from Bangkok was full as well.  Will spend the day catching up with him.

Bangkok shuts all celebrations and entertainment for songkran, including well planned khaosan.

those fascist militaristic minds were trying to boost their egos and pockets with grandiose celebrabions, because they already were vaccinated. They still hoard 850k for the second and concequitive jabs.

It will backfire from angered general population and from small business owners, who all prepared for travel starting from today

That is an arrogant and ignorant statement, because the government has powers to decide what does and what doesn't happen with regards to measures to prevent the spread of infection.

Perhaps somebody had better tell him, but then again, too arrogant by far.

So was there an announcement or not?

I was told by bar staff in Pattaya last night that there would be an announcement at 2 pm today.

I am currently in the same bar having a coffee (as are the other two customers) and nobody knows nowt.

So that explains it all. ????
