BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) - A renowned virologist assumed the British variant of COVID-19 in Thailand might come from Cambodia where the strain had spread.

Prof Dr Yong Poovorawan, head of the Center of Excellence in Clinical Virology at Chulalongkorn University, wrote on his Facebook page that the British variant known as B.1.1.7 had spread widely in Cambodia since Feb 20 and on March 19 about 1,500 people had the variant in Cambodia.

Maybe I am being facetious, but why lay the blame on anyone country.  The fact is it is here and needs to be dealt with.

Ah, but remember all the shouting that China should pay for all the economic damage around the World? People are just like that. Something bad happens. Instead of dealing with it, they try to find someone else to blame. Especially those that were supposed to prevent it - they'll divert responsibility to anyone who has little or no chance of defending their innocence. Problem doesn't go away, but at least now it's someone else's fault.

To clarify: only first sentence is about China. The rest is about Cambodia as per opening post.

Never forget MCOT is working for China International broadcasting also never forget how much the Chinese cried racism when anyone called it the China or Wuhan virus.

Also Britain has just condemned the Chinese genocide...

It's not hard to see what is going on when you put the pieces together.

Not to worry. Sinovac has an efficacy rate of just over 50% for 2 doses, and 3% (yes),  for the first dose only.

Maybe Astra Zeneca will save Thailand. Europe might shortly start donating, we have plenty of supply and no demand in the EU.

Which came from a bat.

Blame the bat, vaccinate the human. ????

I blame the "humans" that ate the bats then spread the filthy, devastating virus! The originators MUST be held accountable!

That still doesn't explain how it got into Thailand... unless it follows a similar pattern of how Myanmarese workers managed to cross the border and make their way to Samut Sakhon area undetected?

Sorry to be blunt but....WHO CARES???

I mean really who cares? Covid in all its forms is in Thailand as it is the rest of the world.

Thailand as usual concentrates more on blame etc than reaction to the problem

I don't recall all this questioning when Covid first came out...guess what? Bet it came from China....Who Cares?

Who is to say the UK Covid is not just covid as a mutated teenager & all countries will see it or already do?

What will happen when the raging adult version/mutation of covid rears its head?

You know it likely will as they say this virus mutates quickly & perhaps is a reaction to who knows what

Point is stop all the stupid fake investigations & instead do what you should have been doing all year...

Prepping!

China did not welcome WHO officials nor were the officials satisfied with the data given.  The Wu-Han flu was in existence for months before China admitted it.

Even blind Freddy knew that. The sooner the west stops believing the lying, propaganda spreading, face saving Chinese, the better! Emperor for Life Xi Jinping will stop at nothing to rule the world!

Latest Covid-19 Wave in Thailand Is Related to Cambodia Strain

By Subhabhong Rarueysong

BANGKOK (NNT) - The strain of Covid-19 found in Thailand among visitors to entertainment venues in Bangkok has the spike pattern that matches perfectly with the Cambodia strain.

Chulalongkorn University virology specialist Dr Yong Poovorawan said on Saturday that the latest strain does not match 100 per cent with the British or other strains, but displays a 100 per cent match with the Cambodia strain.

The Cambodia strain had been found spreading in Cambodia about six weeks before it was detected in Thailand. From this data, it is conclusive that the latest wave at entertainment venues is related to the Cambodia strain of the virus.

He said it was unlikely that the strain had been brought in by people coming via official channels because everybody is tested and quarantined for 14 days, but it could be from migrant workers or Thais sneaking across the border who may have been carriers of this strain, which is 1.7 times more infectious.
