The Hammer2021
Does anybody have experience or pertinent views on installing a Thai Bum gun in a western bathroom. Would be an easy task?
Popular Post Pravda
What is this obsession with bum guns? I really don't get it. I'm currently staying in a condo with "Japanese" toilet and I like so much taking a dump on the warm seat daily, so I decided to check prices in Canada as it will sure be welcome addition to those cold winter days. It's about 400 bucks at home depot, probably 10 times easier to install and 100x better. Edited April 11, 2021 by Pravda 3
VocalNeal
Hmm. Should be OK unless in Northwestern Ontario where the water temperature is about 35F. ???? The toilet has a water supply and is exposed to carpets and wood floors and the like so an extra widget will be OK . It simply increases the risk of a leak. Popular Post ThailandRyan
Added them in my house in California. Could be used in the warmer months, but when the cold weather came it was a thrill to try and use. To cold of water. Removed them and added a bidet seat with a heater and the water was much nicer for the cleaning. Edited April 11, 2021 by ThailandRyan 3
Popular Post Swiss1960
Agree with all above... better to invest in a toilet with automatically warmed water spray... cold water in Switzerland is between 8-15° C all year long... would not want that... 2

Would be an easy task? Very Easy task as a T valve sits between your toilet tank & your water supply line Just google handheld Bidet Like this type Personally I like the better guns if possible Like This So try to find a good valve/hose set & look for a good gun All inexpensive in the USA they are quite popular as diaper washers I guess 4

shdmn
The ground water is a lot colder in northern climates. That's gonna be a real shock to the system doing your business on a cold winter morning. As someone else mentioned, you would want to use heated water. Popular Post NancyL
We installed a Japanese-style bidet toilet when we remodeled our condo in Chiang Mai and really like it. Admittedly, it doesn't get very cold here, but the heated seat and water is nice. Plus, you don't have the toilet gun leaking on the floor. The maid doesn't like it because she is used the the Thai way of cleaning a bathroom, i.e. using the toilet gun to spray water all over everything, including expensive wooden cabinets, etc. Had to have a little training session on how to clean the toilet and cabinets and she got a watering can to use in rinsing the floors. No need to get everything in a bathroom soaking wet to clean the room.

Anyway in my Toronto place the cold water runs warm for a minute or so. What does bother me is the unhygienic, gross, paper faecal smear and residual paste combined with itches, rashes, roids, lesion etc often associated with toilet paper use. 4 1 1
malt25
Yep, fitted to all toilets in Oz about 10 years back. Easy job.
The Hammer2021
Thanks to all those who gave informative practical advice. I have no interest in bidets or warm water toilets. IdeallyI would want to install with minimal work, piping, connections and plumbing. Ideally via the same tank where the flush watet is stored and controlled by the stopcock. Is that possible? would a special tank be required? Is it possible to drill a hole in porcelain? Thus I would be most grateful for any information from people who have actually installed a water snake. They were used a lot in the MENA region where I worked too. Popular Post malt25
Just now, The Hammer2021 said: Ah..thanks for the positive encouragement even though a little light on technical details. Ok. I installed a "T" , behind the cistern, where the water pipe for the toilet exits the wall. I couldn't find any proper bum guns locally where I lived. Used a garden hose, adjustable nozzle. Thai missus & daughters said it worked pretty well. Next trip here to LOS I bought bum gun hand pieces. Job done. 3
Popular Post DefaultName
I installed in the UK, just tee'd off the toilet supply, it really woke me up in the winter. ???? Found out later that this was against the UK regs as it connected directly to the mains. Apparently, you need a separate header tank so that there's an air gap to preclude any chance of contamination into the mains. Though if that was actually important, half of Asia would be dead now. Did I change it? No. It would have lost me the mains pressure and given a poor bum gun. I DID add a non-return valve just in case - within the spirit if not the letter of the regs IMO. So, I was a criminal with a clean bum. ???? To order online, search "hand held bidet" or "shattaf" - Moslems use those for ritual cleansing before prayer, same item different name. T-ing into the supply as described above is what you need, although is not allowed in some places.

Popular Post natway09
After living here for 30 years I could not live without one. Clean the <deleted> off rather than spread it around evenly. For ladies it has to be one of the greatest sanitry thing ever invented. They wash their privates 10 times a day. Great for my nose. Pretty easy to install if you are a home handyman, in Canada you may wish to invest in a small in line water heater as the shock hitting the back of the nuts with your water temp would take my breath away 1

Pedrogaz
Yes I have installed several. The problem with the bum guns is that they are of such poor quality that they start leaking very quickly and you have to get rid of them. 1
