Izzy Friedman......... look him up......  There was also a bar full in the Madrid bar in Pat Pong, the spooks that ran SE Asia.......... You learn something every day eh .......... That's if you've been here longer than five minutes though.....

Update........ It appears he was even in Pattaya, amongst the bar fly heroes and Brigade of SAS.......

Air Force pilot, Izzy Freedman, talks about going to Vietnam in 1963 as an advisor when only 12,000 troops were there. He recounts the work he did flying rescues out of Laos and Cambodia. When he left the Air Force he was hired by Air American and flew missions during the Vietnam conflict. Recorded in Pattaya, Thailand, in February 2014 as part of California Reads, War Comes Home, a program of Cal Humanities       Gerry Berry was the last off the CIA building but i'm sure Freedman was in the vicinity.......

Is 20 years more than five minutes? And do you mean the psychopaths and sociopaths who turned SE Asia into the Killing Fields? Yeah, I'm sure they're interesting...most mass killers are.

Air America had a very nice pool by the airport in Vientiane in the mid 60s.  It was always very quiet - but a bit far from town to go often.  I was sweet on an American girl in '65 but one Sunday she was not at church.  She and her mother had returned stateside - her father had been an Air America pilot and had been shot down.  When we accompanied my father out of town (to places to which one could drive safely) we often walked across bridges and let the land rover and the driver follow as a precaution.  et c etc so many great memories.

As to killing - Ho Chi Minh killed more north Vietnamese, as a proportion of the population, when he seized power than almost anyone else, Stalin, Mao, Genghis, Japanese in China, etc.

With regards the possible change in the law, if as reported it would seem not thought through.

Foreigners will be aloud to buy more than 49% of condos but those above 49% will not have a vote.  In such buildings the majority vote will be foreign as they will have 49% of the votes and the Thais 51% - the share of the non-voting foreigners.  Furthermore, many/most of the buildings that are well run have a majority of foreigners on the board.  The way to encourage foreigners to buy is to ensure buildings are well managed which often means ensuring the board does not have a majority of Thais.

He wouldn't have had to kill anyone if America had granted Ho's request to Roosevelt for independence following WWII; instead, the US spinelessly handed Indochina back to the French. Then, to top it off, after Ho handed the French their jockstraps at the battle of Dien Bien Phu, in a stroke of pure genius, America stepped in for their own ass kicking in place of the French.

No, it was purely ideological.  He was a member of the Comintern, not a nationalist at all, just used the label and the real ones as a front.  His policy was to kill anyone who was a landowner.  Problem he did not know how many there were so he made up a number - 10% and sent in the party fanatics.  They burnt whole families in their houses, or buried them alive, a least one family per village.  Of course there were insufficient real landowners so to meet party imposed targets the cadres simply picked others and added them to the pyre.  Also all the leaders of nationalist or pro-independence groups he had "befriended" were assassinated.    At partition, millions - literally - moved south.  It was the largest migration as a percent of population.  Of course he could talk sweetly and smile to entice the gullible such as Fonda and Kerry.

Sounds like a typical leftist.
