snoop1130
Targeted controls to be introduced as daily new COVID-19 infections pass 1,000 Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered authorities to develop tighter controls, including targeted lockdowns, in provinces classified as Red zones, as daily COVID-19 infections surge to a new high today (Wednesday), recording 1,335 new cases, following 965 yesterday and 985 on Monday. National Security Council Secretary-General Gen Nataphol Narkpanich said today that the NSC and the Ministry of Public Health have been working on additional measures, to be proposed to the CCSA, to contain the continuing spread of the disease. He hinted that the new measures may include lockdowns of Bangkok and its suburbs, Chiang Mai in the North, Prachuap Khiri Khan in the South and some eastern provinces. We have not had, and will not have, “lockdown”. Expect to see a few more red zones next week with the associated restrictions and inconveniences. My money says that you could still drive from Phuket to ChIang Mai and no 7/11’s or Bid C’s will be closed en route. The same money says that I will still be able to travel into Pattaya to see my regular massage cutie..????

The government is going to be excoriated for that poor judgement when the cases spike out of control because the chose to roll out the welcome mat for inter-provincial travel from Covid Red Zones.

The place we were at was packed around 3pm and almost completely empty at 7pm. Most had headed back to Bangkok. We saw many vans being filled up ready for the trip. There were no red zones at that time. IMO the government took a calculated risk in allowing Songkran to take place (with restrictions). They were a tad unlucky with the spike from entertainment places etc but I would guess that within 3/4 weeks the new case numbers will be back to 'normal'. I saw the current situation described as a 'ripple' - calling it a wave is probably an exaggeration. Watch for increased numbers of red zones whilst the authorities take back control. 1

Depends on your definition I suppose but fairly sure we did in BKK in March/April/May 2020. 10pm-5am curfew for a month and IIRC all entertainment venues, cinemas, malls, fitness centers, swimming pools, massage shops, hair salons, schools etc etc shut for 6+ weeks or so. I also remember not being able to leave Bangkok for a couple of months and had to wait until 1st June for a trip down to HH. 2

You were never prevented from leaving your house, traveling (except with minor restrictions), you could freely shop at 7-11, Makro, Big C etc, etc... that is NOT lockdown. Restrictions are what we had. Meaning of lockdown in English lockdown noun [ C or U ] UK /ˈlɒk.daʊn/ US /ˈlɑːk.daʊn/ a period of time in which people are not allowed to leave their homes or travel freely, because of a dangerous disease: It’s important for parents to find ways to keep kids active during lockdown. We’ve had weeks and weeks of lockdown with this pandemic, so it’s normal to feel anxious. The prime minister placed the UK on lockdown with drastic new measures to fight the coronavirus outbreak.
