Popular Post Caldera
"Also on Wednesday, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Ministry of Public Health's Department Disease Control (DDC) said inter-provincial travel should be discouraged and urged people to remain in their current location rather than returning home from their Songkran trip." That is insane. They should have been told to stay at home instead of embarking on a Songkran trip.
Dogmatix
The economy will take a bit hit from the upcoming lockdowns while there is still no realistic prospect of tourism reopening for the foreseeable future. This time there will be little or no stimulus for the unemployed. The government has already used up about 70% of its debt ceiling only half way through its fiscal year and the remaining 30% is already spoken for. Amending the law to raise the debt ceiling would be a political nightmare, they will not even bother to try. Another coup to scrap the law would be easier and preferable for them. Popular Post Dirk Z
Thailand did very well in containing the disease. We had an almost normal life for a long tome when the rest of the world was locked down and considered ourselves fortunate to be here. But the only way out is vaccinating and where even countries like Chilli have a high rate of vaccination Thailand is lagging far behind and I don't see this changing soon. Without vaccination the disease will flare up time and time again and we will always be running behind it.

Well the Bangkok travelers are certainly here in their cars. Easy to tell them when they drive, as they drive like a...h...s! But in all honesty, there is no one in CM at this point. My family who lives in BKK are with us. Anyway we have been out to temples the other few days ago and today furniture and knickknack shopping, and the fact of the matter is everything is shut tight and there are nor tourists for the 99% of that. Now we will probably go into some sort of a lockdown or curfew and this is going to decimate the Thai folk so much more here.

Don't shoot the messenger. This is direct from the horses mouth. I personally know of multiple cases of this; people who know they are infected and know that if they get tested they'll test positive and be forced into one of those nightmare holding facilities, and they'll have their workplace closed down and everyone will be resentful of them, bosses and workmates alike. Why the heck would you get tested when it will make you a pariah and a prisoner, when you can just carry on with a slight cough? Sure, a few people might be willing to do this, but the vast majority won't. For every person I personally know with sterotypical symptoms who is too terrified to get tested, I know second hand of many more cases, and I can only imagine there must be a huge percentage of the population in this boat. But does it really matter anyway? It's just the equivalent of a very bad flu season. If there was no scare campaign or attempt to control it, we'd all just say "Gee, nasty flu season this year!" and that would be the extent of it. If anyone is severely sick they'll seek medical attention, and if they don't, it's only because they were too scared of being forced into going to one of those hideous camps I'd only wish on my very worst enemies and do anything to avoid myself. All the Thai people I've known who have had it, plus the second hand accounts I've heard, have been very mild. If we put half the effort into dealing with tuberculosis or Heaven forbid road safety that we have into this Chinese virus, we'd have saved far more lives and improved many more. All the efforts in Thailand over the last year, which have been utterly devastating, have been completely wasted now that the virus is entirely out of control anyway. The inevitable was merely delayed and is now happening after crippling damage to the country. Great job! 555 1

China did a trial on 10 million people to see if those that were asymptomatic could spread the virus and the results are interesting. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/11/201130131511.htm I mean once people are tested and diagnosed, is anyone following up on their symptoms, do they have the influenza or some other virus, what are their symptoms, deep harsh cough or a runny nose ending up in hospital with many others in the same boat taking up hospital beds and making things worse than they are, just a question, I mean how many have died since Covid first landed here, 97, how many made full recoveries, tens of thousands, just stating the facts. Don't shoot the messenger. The study was done last May. So it is almost a year old. Newer studies have been done that find the opposite is true now. Look at a prior post of mine for the citation and link.

If this escalates- Songkran might well prove the catalyst- then there simply won’t be the capacity to hospitalise asymptomatic COVID cases,so that’ll simply go out of the window in an unplanned chaotic manner as usual. Thailand has been very fortunate in terms of its circumstances and demographic re COVID but the incompetents became complacent and wasted the advantage doing nothing about addressing the only real solution, vaccination and is at the very bottom of the heap in terms of countries vaccinating. No holistic planning skills.
