That said there were 4 cases of covid found in the school just before it closed. 3 of the students and one teacher still in hospital and one of the parents also caught it.

So your guess is up to 30,000 perfectly healthy people will, if tested, be found to possible have an infection , yet have no other symptoms ? Yet out of these many thousands, how many will die or be treated in ICU ? I think 97 deaths in 16 months would be a very good number, no matter what the virus/illness was Nobody runs scared from catching the flu virus, which kills many many thousands, yet want to ruin the lives of millions for 97 deaths ? So much fear, for such a "deadly" virus I don't understand why people don't get this. It's not the people that have died. It's the people that will die. As a terrible example of what happens when you let the virus run, mostly unencumbered, more than 1/2 million dead in the US. That's many times the number of annual flu deaths. We don't want that to happen here. This attitude of "only 97 have died, why are people so afraid" is like wondering why one would wear a parachute, when falling out of a plane has been safe, the first 10,000 feet. 8 1

Same as all the curfews in other countries the virus can see time , people are not aloud on the streets after 9pm because that's when the virus strikes , before 9pm the virus is at home taking a nap so it is fit at 9pm till 5am . 1
Bkk Brian
No matter how well it can be perceived that Thailand did last year containing the virus, this is a whole new ball game now, far more challenging, they've already dropped the ball with serious consequences and I fear it will be many months before there is any hope of getting this under control.

The measures announced are obviously insuficient. daily infections will soon rise to 20-30 000 a day. if they are not allready there. Because of the social distancing and other measures used to contain covid. Do you have any stats on 2019, 2020? If not you are just speculating. I would really like to see these data too. But you are really missing the point. We (Thailand and the world) managed quite well to go about our lives and work and play despite the prevalence of a regularly mutating killer virus in our midst before Covid. Vaccines produced every year for the flu only caught the ones that the pharma companies predicted would occur but still nowhere reached even 50% effectiveness and many people who took flu vaccines (including some of my friends) still caught it every year, while some who never had the vaccine (like myself) never caught flu. People built up immunity naturally and healthy (strong immune system) folks generally fared much better on that score than unhealthy ones.

Complete waste of space, this government. What they should be doing, first and foremost, is to get off their ass and immediately roll out the vaccine to young people in the 15-30 age group ASAP, before any other age groups. The quickest way to help prevent further outbreaks, which will be inevitable for months, even years, to come.

Not hard to find Google this "why has the flu disappeared" first page full of results. Due to influenza’s short incubation period and widespread population immunity, the measures used to stop the spread of COVID-19 also caused flu activity to drastically drop. https://www.healthline.com/health-news/why-the-flu-season-basically-disappeared-this-year#What-drove-down-flu-activity? However yes I agree before covid came along the world got on with their lives despite the risks of flu, covid may well turn into a similar type of yearly seasonal risk, always in the background but not yet, its new and ravaging the world and thats why all these measure are in place.

canthai55
Been over one year since Covid hit. Along came the Doom and Gloom predictions of hospitals filled to overflowing, people dead in the gutter, starvation, rampant crime ... Where is it ? Now in year two and we STILL hear the same stories - Oh, because of a new strain ... Listen to yourselves - do you even read what you post ? Or just jump on the bandwagon and spout all the conspiracy theories you have heard on social media, or that your cat whispers to you in the night.
