Covid authorities in Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand have asked for the cooperation of the public in not travelling in or out of five main districts.

All have been declared Red Zones with more than 50 cases of the virus.

Governor Charoenrit Sanguansat has issued three emergency orders after 272 new cases were found bringing the total to 1,733 in the province.

The red zone districts are Muang district, San Sai, Hang Dong, Saraphi and Sankamphaeng.

Meanwhile buffets have been told they can't be buffets - people must not be allowed to serve themselves.

There are also alcohol bans now in place and gatherings of 50 or more are not allowed unless officially sanctioned, reported Sanook

They reported that the downtown area was deserted.

They were denied access to a field hospital but reported that airflow had been laid on plus wi-fi to alleviate the stress of those admitted.

Civil servants have been advised that if possible they should work from home leaving only a skeleton staff in government officers to cater to the public.

I've seen some of those skeletons in the personal income tax section on the second floor of City Hall. Propped up on cushioned chairs in front of boxy computer monitors running Windows XP, next to little piles of encrusted kanom on their desks.

Reminds me of the banners at Songkran banning alcohol aka "please dont get mao mao and drive like an idiot" logic..kop khun krup!

And that pic--if current.....Im used to the tuk tuks all lined up on the left as they watch the chinese gals climbing the wall for the perfect selfie,

the hippies on the other side trying to get a drum circle going...the thais hocking bird seed for the feathered gods for the chinese to pose with, and the thai

boys sitting on the right side by the coffee shop trying to hand out flyers to the fake boxing show down the street...oh how I miss the salad days!
