The last couple of years has seen a decline in these numbers for a variety of reasons, with onerous Immigration requirements being foremost. There just isn't the replacement numbers anymore for those who choose to move on to pastures new, or 'check out' permanently. Those on modest incomes/pensions will still inevitably make capital purchases when here (accommodation/furnishings/transport etc), as well as in the main stable monthly incomes that contribute billions of baht a year to the Thai economy. Certainly during these times in many areas, it is the Expat population that is helping to sustain local businesses both Thai and Farang owned. They have made it clear they DONT want that category tho.. The 50 - 80k a month expat ?? The writing is on the wall, thanks but no thanks.. HNW folks.. People who can show multi million baht in accessible cash accounts.. People who can show multi 100k per month incomes.. Red carpet.. The writing is on the wall.. They have been saying it for years, plan for it, dont howl and complain when the monetary amounts jump up by multiples not percentages. 1 1

It would, of course, be good if the local population are vaccinated, but it has no bearing on the recommencement of mass tourism. The key factor is that all the incoming tourists are verifiably fully-innoculated. Silly reasoning.. Vaccines are not fully effective.. So if the local population doesnt have herd immunity, then importing infections will infect the country again and again. So yes, it has everything to do with the local population achieving vaccination levels.
LivinLOS
1 hour ago, Poet said: Yes, it essentially boils down to a very low level of intellectual ability among the departments being paid to think about this stuff. If any of us were running Thailand as a business, with the aim of providing maximum employment and economic opportunity to the citizens, we would replace the entire visa system (tourist, education, marriage, retirement, business etc) with a free one-year visa waiver that could be renewed every year without limit and without needing to leave the country. Hell, I would make it renewable at 7-11. Working on the basis that every foreigner contributes to the economy, you would maximise the number coming in but retain the right to boot anyone out if they cause trouble. If the supposed problem of foreigners doing a runner on their hospital bills is an actual problem, I suppose you could insist that everyone coming in have insurance, but this complication would inevitably reduce the number coming in and I suspect that most hospitals are actually pretty good at collecting their money. If you do insist on comprehensive insurance, okay, probably a good idea anyway, but it should also completely replace the current bank deposit scheme for marriage and retirement extensions. In short: Make it easy to come and spend money in Thailand. Reverse 2 years and Thailand had 40 million visitors to a 60 million population.. The powers that be dont want that !!! Even at the cost of economic expansion..

The article is unusual in that it freely admits that the country is being held back by agencies within it for power reasons not ones that advance the country.. “Even the projects that the government would like to do, the Cabinet would like to do, everyone agrees with, the problem is the agencies themselves because this (the regulations) is where their power comes from,” she said.

WingFat
So what is the threshold for being "rich" for a farang in Thailand ??? My only reference point was my ex-TGF when I asked her what she thought was needed to be rich...she told me THB 60 million. I wasn't about to tell her I exceeded that. As long as they keep the blinders on nothing will work. Only thing that works is, middle class tourist nomads and the regular retirees. And with 15 days locked up or requiring vaccines, it is not happening. 75% or more in the west don't want to take a vaccine for a manipulate plandemic with a 99.6% recovery rate. 1

Now for some reason (we can only guess) it has to be checked manually by staff who don't work on weekends or any of the numerous holidays. Not world class service ! Popular Post RR2020
And I notice is some headlines today the Public Health Ministry has said that Thai's will get vaccinated before any foreigners. Generally a nice country in the world will vaccinate anyone who is living there with the correct visa/residence permit. But no............Thailand with its anti foreigner "we love only money and rich people"..............says..............no.........Thai people only first. Wonder if that will be in the headline......... If they wanna attract anybody, they need to get their population vaccinated so they can do away with the quarantine. Until the quarantine requirement goes away, nothing will work. After weeks of hearing how "everyone" over 60 with an underlying condition, living in Thailand would be eligible to sign up this month to receive the first jab in June and the second in July, this article in Chiang Mai One appeared "Thais Get Priority Over Expats – No Plan To Give Free Jabs To Foreigners. My question would be, and yes I already suspect the answer, is why the Thai government does not give the embassies permission to vaccinate expats living here in Thailand? This only helps Thais. Here is what the article said and completely does a 180 on what we have been hearing. "Thai people will always be given priority for COVID-19 vaccines, the Ministry of Public Health said yesterday, denying reports that some expats living in the kingdom would also be allowed to register for free jabs. The ministry said while the government wanted to take care of everyone living here, it had no plans to give free vaccines to expats due to very limited vaccine stocks, so Thai people would be the first to get it. “The vaccines right now are only reserved for Thai people who are now at a high-risk level or living in the severe outbreak areas,” said spokesman Rungrueng Kitphati. “They [expats] should wait for a clear policy from the government. “In the future, the country will provide more alternatives for vaccines so they could have a chance of getting it. Please don’t worry.” ”There will soon be a surplus of vaccines so it will not be difficult to get them.” On Monday, some expats announced on social media that they had successfully registered to get the vaccine via the Mor Prom Line application. @joecummings wrote on Twitter he had booked to have his vaccination at McCormick Hospital in Chiang Mai in June." However, the ministry was quick to deny that the government had any plans to give free jabs in June and July to foreigners aged over 60 with underlying health issues. So far, 1.498 million people in priority groups have been inoculated, including public health officers, frontline workers, and people in high-risk areas. 3
