Popular Post webfact
Picture: Daily News Thais heading for a market in the north east of Thailand were allowed to do some roadside exercises at a checkpoint rather than face a 6,000 baht fine. The checkpoint was set up on the Nam Phong to Phra Tatu Kham Kaen road in Khon Kaen by a local kamnan called Chatchai Lohamat. It came after two people in the market tested positive for Covid-19. Market visitors in cars and on motorcycles had their temperatures taken and there was hand gel on offer. Chatchai said that most people complied with the mask wearing order and those that didn't were mostly young people who were told to do twenty "squat thrusts" then given a mask, reported Daily News. If people had a temperature of 37.5 or over they were given a drink, told to rest then retested. It was hot out. Older people didn't escape the squats, said Chatchai. It was good exercise for them, he noted. Most places in Thailand are fining people 6,000 baht for a first offence for not wearing masks; it's then 12,000 baht and 20,000 for subsequent offences. The Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha was fined 6,000 baht for breaching the rule in Bangkok. Thaivisa notes that the Thai police sometimes give motorcyclists roadside exercises instead of fines for violations like not wearing helmets. This was the first such case for not wearing a mask. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-05-05 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1 1

Squat thrusts are second nature to most Thais. As just one example, my neighbour who is 77 does squats all day whilst doing his bamboo weaving. He never seems to tier Thais a lot fitter than people think mainly due to the simple practice of sitting on the floor.
Tropicalevo
Look at the reality. The majority of Thais, outside of the cities, would have to sell a family member to raise 6,000 baht. I have 12 staff and I pay above the minimum wage, but none of them has 6,000 baht to give away. (Yes, they all wear masks.) Most months, near the fortnightly paydays, some of them are asking to borrow money. Times are tough. Jobs are scarce, pay has dropped and only the very rich are making money. The NE of Thailand is not renown for being a high income area. Punish them but let's not break them.

KhunBENQ
And nobody challenges the utter nonsense of wearing a mask while riding a bike. No helmet but a mask. I still have problems to digest/overlook this absurdity. It tells a lot about this country.
