Thailand orders an additional 50 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines

Recommended Posts

So another 100 million doses have been 'ordered'. Means nothing without a contractual delivery plan. 10 million doses this year, 90 million next? Vaccine doses cannot be magically produced from thin air.

About 9 billion doses have already been ordered, but less than 2 billion delivered ( couldn't get up to date clear figures). There is a long queue.

If you take these other vaccines besides Pfizer or Modera , you can still get infected if exposed. Just not die. Pfizer and Modera seem to be stronger against Covid 19. That's why many countries are ordering it .

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the procurement of 50 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine

Isn't this the Chinese wonder drug that the CZAR decided was not good enough for the country's elite....and refused to take it himself?

But he doesn't mind feeding it to his own people. Knowing he is paying basically nothing for it

Anutin heads a political party. So he has political clout well beyond his nominal position as Minister of Health and apparently PM feels it is not possible/advisable to remove him, at least so far.

The ugly side of politics, never as straight forward as us lame ones would assume.

Millions of doses of ... I suppose ... Sinovac and Sputnik V. Looks great!

The number 1 supplier is AstraZeneca. Not Sinovac or Sputnik. Stop spreading fake news.

Nice to hear reason about the Mythical " herd immunity".  Everyone needs to be vaccinated plus a booster in 6 months.

Otherwise there will never be much of any tourist economy or other" hub".

As long as vaccines are not available, I expect the number of ordered vaccines to increase.  Next September, when there is still no mass vaccination, I expect an announcement of a deal for one billion doses, maybe from North Korea.

Well you need to order them.  Hopefully they'll get the order in tomorrow as its Sunday today and everything is closed.

Scepticism and pessimisim about much of the truth content is a natural result of the general public perceptions and opinions derived from the current shambolic situation that has compromised confidence in the  Government.

With this new significant wave of infections and deaths the complacency and smug attitudes of seemingly invulnerability has been shattered and the reality of the failure to even attempt to provide the inevitable need for vaccines has been exposed as a huge mistake.

The announcement of an executive order to order is somewhat meaningless other than at best it  belatedly  puts Thailand at the rear of a queue for vaccines that are being produced and distributed according to commercial and political whim and dictate.

Procured my <deleted>. Procured means you got them in your sweaty little hands.

These are orders. Orders which may or may not be fulfilled, depending on where you are in the pecking order.

Not even orders yet.  He's instructed his minions to order them.  Which will be followed by committee meetings, hand wringing, and a treasure hunt for backhanders and political brownie points before they even become purchase orders.  That may take months.  Then and only then will they get into the pecking order.

"Just not die."

Really?

Right, because not dying from Covid is, to your way of thinking, a minor consideration?

No, it was the UK's wonder drug, the Astra Zeneca vaccine.

Strange how Moderna is not on this list.

Yes, why isn't Moderna in the plans?

It has not been in any of these discussions at all.

Moderna has limitations in difficulty of distribution but these are the same that Pfizer has.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the procurement of 50 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from various sources, on top of the 100 million doses procured for this year, to make sure that everyone in the country is inoculated and that there are reserves left over for future use.

I have a very strong suspicion China has encouraged Thailand to delay all other vaccines into Thailand so that Sinovac can fill the void. No doubt the Chinese would also be quite happy to pay the 30% backhanders into the pockets of their Sino Thai cousins. Win Win Cooperation.

It isn't the only one available. Its the only one that has been Given to the Thai Government for free. That's because nobody wanted it . All of these vaccines except for Phizer and moderna will not stop you from testing positive for Covid. They will just stop you from getting deathly ill. I think your research is wrong along with your thinking

You should tell my nephew he just imagined getting covid.

If he was vaccinated with the China vaccine , AZ or something besides Pfizer or moderna and was exposed. I am not surprised he tested positive. The good news is he wont wind up in a ICU unless he has a underlining condition. You should tell your nephew that. Good bye and good luck. This conversation is over.

Just following on your statement: "Just not die." It's clear now that you meant something different but when you write "just" in this context it minimizes the importance of the statement rather than enhances it.
