geovalin
PHNOM PENH, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's total COVID-19 cases have risen to 19,743 on Monday after 506 new infections were confirmed across the country in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said in a statement. The new cases included 495 local cases and 11 imported, the statement said. Six more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 126, the statement said, adding that 179 patients have recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,820. Health Ministry's secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine warned of tragedy if people did not follow health safety measures properly, such as wearing a face mask, washing hands frequently with alcohol or soap and keeping a physical distance of 1.5 meters from each other. "I do not want to think about tragedy due to COVID-19 in the future at all, but if we do not act together quickly and we do not prevent its transmission properly, it may come true one day," she said. Cambodia has been enduring the third wave of COVID-19 community transmission since Feb. 20. In a bid to flatten the infection curve, the country has closed down all schools, sports facilities, museums, cinemas, and entertainment venues nationwide and has imposed lockdowns in some areas which are deemed to have a high risk of infections. The Southeast Asian nation launched an anti-COVID-19 inoculation drive on Feb 10. To date, nearly 1.8 million out of the country's 16-million population had been vaccinated, the Ministry of Health said. http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/asiapacific/2021-05/10/c_139936160.htm
