Popular Post Thujone
Yes, the greater coucal, also known as the crow pheasant. It's a large species of cuckoo. I enjoy it's low coop-coop-coop call, very dove-like. Not so keen on it's almost screeching call it sometimes lets rip. Quite a clumsy bird, when disturbed in the garden, it flies off low, then comes to an ungainly landing, to stumble about a bit, seemingly not quite sure what it's doing, before attempting another take-off. If I were a bird, it's likely I would do the same...

Moonlover
I often see them on my morning walk in the country. I'm surprised to see a picture of one in your garden, They seem to be pretty shy and will head for cover the moment they become aware of me. As @Thujone commented they seem as if they would have benefited from a few more hours at flight training college.

I can never quite pinpoint who it is coming from
Tropicalevo
Greater coucal. Lots on Samui where I live. Guests often think that their 'whoop whoop' call sounds like monkeys.
