Thailand reports 4,887 COVID-19 cases, 32 new deaths

The blue segments show self-referred cases. The tan segments show those cases found via outreach testing. The gray portion for the latest day today shows the cases related to the new Bangkok prisons outbreak.

 

 

Interesting, it looks like they're not counting the Bangkok prison cases as part of Bangkok's province totals, the number 1 line on the chart below with 1,069 new cases reported today:

Of the 4,887 new cases that were found in the past 24 hours: - 1,439 were found via tests at medical facilities - 597 via proactive tests - 16 in quarantine facilities - 2,835 were found at two prisons

There is no social distancing at all in Chonburi. Markets are crowded as normal with ridiculous amounts of people there. The market in Naklua was rammed with people last night and motorbikes lined up like sardines in a can.

 

I don't think the average Thai understands that going to these places is a health risk or maybe they don't care.

 

Oh well, we are about to witness a major crisis IMO.

I assume Thais know about the concern over the use of ventilators and these 406 poor souls are definitely in the last chance saloon and that is the reason they are on them........or as Johnson so eloquently put it....'Operation Last Gasp'....what an idiot.

I bet it’s nearly 10 times that amount 

same w the 3000 in the prison system!

they don’t have any real estimates in IMHO.

one thing that seems clear is that it’s not going away anytime soon… Thailand now has to make the best of the resources it has available to survive this.

I'd say the floodgates are now open, and if not they are bursting at the seams. 

there has been a "third ripple" bringing around 2000 cases per day, but this figure has been stable for a week or two now... I heard they are now closing the field hospitals in Chiang Mai because they are not needed. This is at odds with your assessment of the floodgates being opened. I don't think the 2500 prison cases can be reliably added to the figure for the general population, and even if you chose to, then that surely wouldn't have happened in a single day.

Regarding the population of COVID hospitalized patients:

 

--The number of COVID patients hospitalized in critical condition declined a bit from 1,226 to 1,209 over the past day (although today's 32 new deaths probably figures into that change).

 

--the share of those critical patients requiring ventilators to breathe increased only from 401 to 406 over the past day, a smaller increase than other recent days.

 

--because of the influx of new prison cases reported today, the population of COVID patients in some kind of hospital facility increased from 29,378 to 32,661 over the past day.

Recent studies show that people who are anxious (not stressed), who look on the darker-side of things and tend to contemplate the worst........actually live longer, happier lives.

 

Being the anxious, negative type makes you plan for worst, makes you think ahead........."we" never miss appointments, flights, ferries, we avoid traffic jams, fights in bars etc......... so overall lead less stressful lives.

Take out the prison numbers though and we're still at the plateau of 2000 new cases a day which we have been at for several weeks now. Hardly bursting at the seams.

Doom-Monger, just a factual post by a poster who posts what he has seen and observed.  Nothing in his post about doom and gloom, just truthfulness. His view of more cases to come based upon the stats and what is posted is not scaremongering either.  You can agree to disagree but stop with the name calling unless you can prove what you say. If so then report the post

How is it irrelevant?

Was it irrelevant when Italy were knee deep in the crisis and warned everyone else of what was to come?

 

Everything is relevant to everything else.

If Thailand does not act swiftly we will end up with a high death rate. 

Hospitals will be overrun and it will be just like India.

 

Hardly anyone has been vaccinated yet so it is the perfect storm.

This peak naturally would not just vanish in one day and we should now start seeing a progression on this for all the daily tests carried out in those prisons, if not we know again the numbers are just not accurate.

 

More worrying, this was less than handful of prisons, what about all the other prisons throughout Thailand? When exactly are we going to know the numbers there.

 

I'm sure there's going to be a couple of posters here to try and set us straight and defend this, its going to be amusing to see your attempts.

 

This is a sad reality of the true situation in Thailand that we just got to know about, what else don't we know?

 

 

Testing was probably done over several days and is an accumulated total. Once the protester was released and found positive, mass testing was probably done then. I;m surprosed that proactive testing has not been done (seemingly so) in prisons here, when it has been a problem overseas. Unless the have been and been keeping it under wraps - bit how was that going to work, when prisioners are routinely paroled.

Great opportunity for tomorrow, as they can the claim a 50% decrease in cases.

Also consider the fact that Singapore, with a resident population of less than 6 million, has had 60,000 cases. It's a small, easily controlled island, technologically and bureaucratically advanced, with a fairly authoritarian government and a compliant population. Yet they still had about 2/3 the number of cases as China claims. That raises a lot of doubt about China's numbers also. On a positive note, Singapore has only had 31 deaths -- largely due to their excellent health care system and the fact that most of the 60K cases were among young, healthy foreign workers.

Numbers from prisons SHOUL be keps separate, so we can see the rate of community spread as a separate rate. This makes epidemilogical sense. If I have 4800 cases in a day, I sure as heck want to know the sources of these infections.

Be careful of posting information which is not entirely factual.  Chiang Mai universities field hospital has closed but the others they have in place are still open and treating patients.

Certain villages have closed access from outside, and as of today there is no indication they have reopened.

Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre is currently treating about 1,200 patients, while it has a capacity of 1,500 beds.  They are still open as of today.
