PHUKET:-- Patong Police Chief Col Sujin Nilabodi has confirmed that the managers of the three venues where the mass parties were held in Phuket last month, marking the beginning of the ‘Third Wave’ infections on the island, will face charges under the Emergency Decree.

The “parties”, organised by Kolour beachside, at Cafe Del Mar Phuket in Kamala, Illuzion nightclub on Bangla Rd and at the Shelter Phuket Dance & Night Club, also in Patong.

The parties were held on Apr 2-3.

At the time was there any national or provincial regulation banning such outdoor parties ?

No, but there were rules in place that the venues breached.

If there were, how did the Police not get involved shut down the party at the time ?????

It had been nearly 200 days without a new infection. So things were more relaxed.

But this B1.1.7 variant had just started spreading around Thailand.

The Police can turn up and illegally raid a private residence where 6 foreigners are having dinner, so how did they not shut down the party if it was so very very illegal ?????

Yes, that was six weeks after covid had reared its head again. When the parties were held Phuket was thought to be covid free.

Since then there has been increasingly serious rules introduced to stop this new spread, compulsory rapid tests at airports and Sarasin bridge.

OR... had the ‘right’ people already been paid off.... so the only way to deal with the face-loss is with a healthy dose of post-event hand washing and the right amount of ‘faux-outrage’...

No Rich, calm down mate, you are a bit confused with your time line.

There is no way that the Phuket Governor was unaware that this party was being held well ahead of time.

just a pity these people cannot be removed or held to account, I think it is coming

I am hearing more and more recently from some Thai people that I know and meet the anger building up - the people of Thailand are not going to tolerate this much longer. I have never heard it so strong from so many people - they really have had enough

People like this Governor of Phuket better have a good exit plan

Phuket is a beautiful place spoiled rotten to the core by those wooden trying to run the place

an utter disgrace to all Thais trying to make a living and foreigners who hopefully will never set foot in the place until this #### is gone

I emailed Kulour shortly after the event to express my disgust at the holding and "non compliance" of any Covid measures at the event. And thanking them for ruining the relatively Covid free environment. we had enjoyed in Phuket for almost a year. I also suggested, with the possibility of a stint in the "Bangkok Hilton" that it might be prudent for them to look at flights out of Thailand ! I wonder if they took my advice?

Rob Muir said that -

According to the stats from https://covid19.th-stat.com/en/share/map, which is now off line, but which I downloaded in February, the last case in Phuket was 25-12-2020. The next case after that according to CCSA was 07-April. Excel tells me that that is 103 days.

A LONG way from 200 days.

And to put it into perspective, Phuket are now 19th out of 77 Provinces with a total of 579 cases since 01-April-2021 & 583 since recording began.

So they did well in the 1st & 2nd waves, but those <deleted> Hi-Sos who took it down to Phuket for the Kolour Beachside Festival which was held April 2 and 3 with events at Café Del Mar Phuket in Kamala, and Shelter Phuket Dance and Night Club and Illuzion Nightclub, both in Patong have done their thing. Now Phuket is suffering.

You can blame it on partiers and hiso's.  But when the borders are as porous as they are for illegal foreign workers and Thais crossing back and forth to work in casinos, any finger pointing is either a deliberate deflection or a wild guess.
