Popular Post thcosh
hello, Some street dogs have skin problems and it seems difficult to give them any medicine. I have seen Thai use Gentian violet, do you think that it works ? Or is there anything cheap to use ? any experience please ? https://www.lazada.co.th/catalog/?page=1&q=Gentian%20violet&sort=priceasc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_violet Thank you for your help.

Popular Post Daffy D
I would also like to know. One of my dogs has a skin condition that just never goes away. Over the years have been to several vets and have tried just about every one of the medicines mentioned here but nothing has worked. Sometimes a dose of treatment seems to have the condition under control but it always comes back ???? Have not yet tried Gentian Violet so might give it a go.
Popular Post kickstart
We have had dogs with skin problems ,often the cause is insect vector ,I give them an injection of Ivermec . If you can find it, the Purple spray will work ,used mainly on cattle and goats ,it has Oxytercycline ,that does help .
dddave
From the 'net: Does apple cider vinegar kill mange? Apple cider vinegar is a popular home remedy for treating mange. To use apple cider vinegar as a treatment, dilute it with warm water in a 1:1 ratio and apply directly to your cat's skin. These types of oil can help soothe your cat's itch and suffocate and kill the mites. ( says cats but is said to work similarly for dogs)

G Rex
The Gentian Violet is an astringent, and has antibacterial affect. It will help to dry the irritated areas, but will unlikely cure the problem. As mentioned by Kickstart , arthropod vectors are the most likely cause of the skin problems - so ideally treatment aimed at preventing these before the damage is done is the way to go. Nexgard and Bravecto are the best treatments currently, and ivermectin works as well - but this info is probably of no use to you for treating Soi dogs!
Sheryl
If you don't mind the mess, and IF the problem is infection (bacterial or fungal) gentian violet is fine. However will have no effect if the cause is allergy, autoimmune condition or parasites (mites, fleas, ticks etc). Allergy can be from food, environment, or reaction to fleas.

I would say any skin problems would be eczema(demeratits),if it was diet related . But can not see diet being the cause, being Soi dogs, a diet of rice and left over scraps as Sheryl said ,more than likely insect vector . We had a cat with eczema our local vet, said the same as me being a outside cat mites fleas were the problem gave her a jab of dipyrone-50, and Ivermec soon cleared up, should work with this problem If you can use Gentian Violet on the dogs you should be able to give them a jab ,he says hopefully .

It's for street dogs, so bravecto + antibiotics + gentian can help it seems
