cliveshep
We are probably 3 miles away to the East as the crow flies, the pillar of smoke was biblical and with so little breeze spread North and South blotting the late evening sun. By the time we finished walking the dogs about 6.30pm the smoke pall must have been 5 miles or more wide in the sky. There was a stench like burning paint, it must gave been hell closer in for the fire-fighters. I pity locals living close to that inferno, the smoke must have been extremely carcinogenic to plus it was bloody hot anyway, 36C.
peterdarby
It was a huge fire. We could see the flames leaping into the sky and the huge pall of black smoke, from our balcony 15 kms away.

If anyone was trapped inside one breath of that and you're done for... never mind burning.
