Vaccine registration for foreigners in Thailand expected by August

What ridiculous nonsense! The reason for vaccinating is:

1. To protect lives.

2. To stop the spread of the virus.

It is arguable which is the ''main'' priority. To delay non-Thais' vaccination is most illogical.

Not sure what all ''Western'' countries are doing but certainly in the UK ''people'' get vaccinated regardless of race -- even illegal immigrants (allegedly) -- when their age group gets ''called up'' they line up and get it -- hence the numbers of cases, hospitalization, and deaths have dropped unbelievably: 37,000,000 have had their first dose; over 20,000,000 their second dose.

Honestly, they act like "registering" for something is the be all and end all.

The goal right now seems to be to get everyone registered. As if registering somehow gives some immunity.

Delivering a vaccine? Meh.

Just automatically register EVERYONE.

OMG, they've got more than enough information and records on everyone. ID cards, housee registrations, TM30, TM47.....

They DO have all of that information, BUT it's all in the typical Thai "pile file" system. Have you ever asked them to retrieve a document that you already gave to them, and it had been filed away? I have. LOL. The officer literally stood there, speechless for 5 full minutes. You could see the wheels turning, as they thought through what it would take to retrieve it.
This interaction ended with, "Ok ok ... you bring next time". It was an interesting (but not intentional) experiment.

What will happen when 80% of Thais will be vaccinated while only 20% of foreigners will be lucky to get their shot? What kind of treatment will we get from the locals at that point?

same treatment as we get now.

Sadly your very mistaken. No one is safe until everyone is safe. Why? Because in case you had not read or heard the Virus will change/mutate  as it did in UK in December  ( became UK or Kent variant) when 4 weeks or so later  deaths reached 1000+ each day. ( in a developed country).

Now this week we have the Indian variants in towns not far from Manchester like Bolton of which one is highly transmitted & people who did not take the AZ or Pfizer are madly queuing up. This variant is doubling in numbers within 1 week as it did in India.

The take up above age 55 etc in UK is well well beyond 60% and now the mid-30s are being vaccinated all over UK in massive numbers as younger and younger groups are fully vaccinated. A double dose of AZ or Pfizer gives 97% protection for most people.

One last thing this vicious virus will not as you say 'peeter out' - its universal, it changes like the Flu virus. There is no end point. Massive vaccination campaigns and then yearly vaccine now needed as EU & USA & China are doing. We live with this yes but only when all 18yrs to 100 yrs vaccinated.

In case you haven't heard, actually only 50% of the US population is fully vaccinated and Covid cases have declined dramatically; and many mask mandates and venue capacity limits are being removed, and life is starting to return to normal (160M ÷330M).   https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/covid-19-vaccine-doses.html

The final goal should be to vaccinate all who want one but the IMMEDIATE goal should be to get Thais done and then the virus danger will fall quickly. It's very tiresome having members banging on endlessly on when/if vaccines for foreigners will be available.

In America, they also do things like provide a ground for electrical work, have websites that work, and enforce traffic laws.

Foreigners in Thailand are likely to be able to register to  receive the COVID-19 vaccination by August, the government said on Monday.

So basically a 3 month head start for locals over foreign residents.

Nice to know where we stand in the scheme of things.

Meanwhile, Thais are flying to Florida and getting vaccinated with an hours of landing for free.

Yes, a constant reminder just like all of the other dirty peasants exactly where you stand in the grand scheme of things.

August!!

Oh no, that doesn't add up with the Thai bashers' narrative of being discriminated against and hated.

So a single incidence in one province is representative of the whole and the myriad reports of chaotic, inconsistent and contradictory guidance is subsumed to that eh? ????

Why would they not want to vaccinate foreigners?

Because it would be a sign of weakness from the government, treating a foreigner with the same regard as a Thai could have a problematic knock on effect.

Imagine it, foreigner gets treated the same as a Thai and gets a free vaccine, same day, same registering app, same vaccine, next foreigner expects to be treated like a Thai and demands the 90 day reporting to be scrapped, as Thais don’t need to do it.

as usual govt spokesperson has nfi. Foreigners are already registering at public hospitals and community health clinics in rural areas of many provinces. We've even had door to door registration too. In fact I'm pretty sure I've been registered 3 times. Once at the health clinic by my wife, once using the email address advertised for CM and yesterday by the door to door method, again by my wife. In fact the person who came door to door knew my name and asked my wife to supply either my passport number or pink ID card number. She gave him both. So what does that say about the ineptitude of the govt's spokespeople.  As usual right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing.

As the government officials said months ago, all Thai will be vaccinated before foreigners.

The excuse that a new computer system is need for foreigners is just an excuse to delay vaccinating foreigners.

A tad confused. This was posted Saturday...........................

Mr Natapanu said a registration system, similar to the Mor Prom platform used by Thai people to register for the vaccine, is currently being developed specifically for foreigners.

However, he said that in principle, expats in Thailand will be able to receive the vaccine at one of the many walk-in centres that will be set up throughout the country.

Mr Natapanu said that the walk-in centres that are operating currently are part of a soft opening or a “test run” for all walk-in centres.

“For walk-in vaccination services, any provinces that are ready to provide the vaccines can commence operations immediately,”  Mr Natapanu said.

He also said that the vaccine rollout to the general public is likely to happen much sooner than earlier reported.  This is because the supply of the vaccines is happening earlier than expected.

Therefore, the walk-in program will officially begin next week, rather than in June as initially anticipated.

This means that in principle, foreigners will be able to use the walk in vaccination services as soon as they are up and running and the locations are confirmed.

Once an official announcement is made to signal the opening of the walk-in vaccine program, foreigners, in principle, will be able to use the walk-in service, Mr Natapanu said.

Discussions are also underway to have separate walk-in centres for foreigners, which will be staffed by English speakers, in order to avoid any communication issues regarding vaccinations.

However, it would be preferable that foreigners register for the vaccination using the mobile app, once it is available as this helps avoid overcrowding and is more efficient.

Throughout Saturday’s English language briefing, Mr Natapanu spoke of the fluid nature of the situation and that information can change very quickly.

He did however say that expats in Thailand can rest assured that they are in the government’s plans regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.  ............................................Therefore, the walk-in program will officially begin next week, rather than in June as initially anticipated. ..............................This doesn't sound like August

Cheer up Lads; if you live in Chiang Mai you can get registered at Big C 1 on Hang Dong Road right now....today !

Went shopping this morning and Lo and behold; they have set up a Registration Centre inside one half of the Food Court, all taped off from the 'Diners'.  I'm already registered and so is the Mrs but i enquired if 'Aliens' can register and they said 'Yes; we are open for EVERYONE to register as of today'.

Should mention; if you have a Yellow Book and/or a Pink Card (both show your Thai ID Number) then you will get a first jab appointment. If you only have Passport you will get registered but no jab date as yet.

And to prove the vaccine's efficacy (for the doubters)

Covid: Indian variant cases in 86 council areas - Hancock

He (Matt Hancock)  said most people in hospital in those areas had been eligible for a vaccine but had chosen not to have it - and urged anyone not sure whether to get jabbed to "look at what's happening in Bolton".

Good to see they are going out their way to help foreigners who can't be bothered to get a tax ID number.

Who's side are you on. Did it ever occur to you that some long term visa holders are unable to acquire a tax ID number for very good reasons? NO? Thought not.

He seems sincere, and honest and sympathetic to the requirements of foreigners here, but he is a mouthpiece, translating and regurgitating part of the Thai briefing immediately preceeding. I understand that he is is in a challenging position, and he comes across as reasonably professional.

That said, the woman who occasionally fills in for the English-language portion is much, much, much better: clearer, definitive, succinct, no BS.

What, 2 1/2 months to set up a registration platform? I'd rather they be honest and say "we don't want to vaccinate foreigners" instead of all this other nonsense and misinformation.

Yip, only the sick and fat need apply for vaccination.

He is only there because of his English ability. If not here, he'd be running his parent's coffee shop.

More rubbish from the authorities, foreign registration pushed back to August, which year I wonder?

Vaccines not available to purchase until October at the earliest!!

a real sign of positive discrimination against foreign settlers living here.

but guessing all is subject to change when their daily ideas fail to materialise

The big problem with their slow rollout is that they will start the sandbox programme on July 1st and, after 7 days in Phuket, vaccinated tourists will be able to travel freely in places like Pattaya with a large expat population. Meanwhile, if said expats are only going to be able to register for vaccination in August, when will they be likely to receive it? September? October? December perhaps? At the same time, if the mayor gets his way, a rapid vaccination programme will have been carried out on at least 70% of the Thai population, so we will end up with a situation in Pattaya where hundreds of thousands of vaccinated tourists who feel they are safe from the virus will be roaming freely, along with the vast majority of Thais who will have been vaccinated and will also feel they are safe, while many thousands of elderly and vulnerable farang expats will still be waiting for the vaccine and will be unable to safely go out when the vast bulk of the population will feel safe and will feel safe and will no longer be taking many (if indeed any) precautions.
