webfact
Picture: Manager Specially trained dogs are set to begin work in Bangkok sniffing out Covid-19. The six Labrador Retrievers have been trained by the vet department at Chulalongkorn University. Dr Kawalee Chatdarong said they are accurate to 94.8% and can sniff out asymptomatic individuals. They won't actually be going up to potentially infected people though. They have been trained to sniff samples of sweat on cotton wool contained in canisters. If there's the smell of Covid the dogs sit down. Manager reported that the plan is the brainchild of Social Development and Human Security minister Chuti Krairiksh with help from volunteers and the vets at Chula. The plan is to train 100 handlers so that the dogs can be used in 50 districts in the Thai capital. Their target will be bedridden people who can't get out to have a test. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-05-18 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Brunolem
Unfortunately the smart BMWs that can smell an overstaying foreigner from a mile away, cannot smell the virus...maybe time to buy Teslas, who know a thing or two about viruses, since they are full of them... In the meantime they have no other solution than using the Prime Minister's labradors, who were originally trained to sniff truffles, but can also deal with viruses. The good part is that the friendly dogs don't need to go all the way up into our nose to detect the damn bug, since they can do it by sniffing directly our crotch, which is far more convenient... Actually I have read reports from other countries that dogs can detect Covid-19 but there is some way to go before they can be used as sniffer dogs. https://www.livescience.com/dogs-sniff-out-coronavirus.html
