Police said that the man went to Wat Eranthawan located in south Chiang Mai on Sunday armed with machete and confronted the monk, who managed to escape and call the police. CCTV footage appeared to show the man at the temple brandishing the machete. On Monday, officers from Hang Dong police station arrested the 50 year old British man at a house in Nam Phrae district following a four hour stand-off. Police said they found a small quantity of cannabis inside the man’s Toyota car. He was also found to be on overstay. The man has been charged with drug possession, trespassing, criminal nuisance and overstaying his visa.
