Phuket to reopen to international visitors on July 1

Good to see that the holiday islands of Samui & Phuket had zero new #COVID19 infections today. The vaccination rollout is also proceeding well I’m told. I read the other day that all of the staff at Anantara hotels on both Samui & Phuket have already been vaccinated #Thailand

I think it wishful thinking that on July 1 the place will be heaving. I really doubt it. I think it will be a phased opening of businesses based on the level of tourist traffic which is going to be very slow ramp up over the a long long time.

 

My guess is that on the first of July it will be like going to Clacton in February. With most places still closed with a few Viagra enhanced vaccinated pensioners wandering around looking for somewhere to park their ever limpening stick of rock

 

and the Chinese of course....  With their home printed vaccination documents that are as genuine as a Nigerian Lottery win

July is in the middle of Summer in the northern hemisphere, so why would millions of people who are enjoying

Summer, want to travel to Thailand.  I think that from October through the Winter will be a more likely date

for people wanting to escape the cooler weather, and threat of snowy days.     Keep dreaming Phuket, as there

will be people who are so sick of their own homes that they will travel just to get to new scenery.    So there may

be a few thousand from July to November travelling, just to travel.

I don't think anyone is expecting it to be heaving on 1 July. It is supposed to be a slow start, first Phuket, followed by other places, so by the start of high season Thailand will be open.

Good point.  The article I saw was talking about this upcoming fall/winter.  Huge demand for travel to Asia.  Not just Thailand, but it's the #1 destination.  Can't blame them!  Get away from the cold! LOL

It won’t depend on tourists. They might phase reopening with vaccination. By the time they reach 70% vaccinations, everything should be fully open.

July is when the West travels. It is high season for them because that is when kids have off from school. There might be even more incentive to travel before schools reopen to in-person learning in the fall.

Yes, but without tourists there is no business. You can open, but until tourism recovers, which is predicted to be 5 years time, it will be a slow ramp up.

 

Unless you control the opening of individual bars, clubs, hotels, taxi's by limiting their numbers to match the number of visitors then the money will be spread across too many businesses to make them all viable. 

 

The customer demand will not be there.

 

The question is will that demand every come back?

 

With the reputation Phuket has for scamming, you could see tourists choose more honest destinations when they return to Global holiday travel. After all they have the whole World to pick from.

 

You will also find many countries and resort destinations will be subsidising their inbound flights, hotels, and entertainment venues to try to get their tourism numbers up quickly to get the cash rolling.

So no different to pre-covid? When did tourist that come here not have the choice of an "honest destination" or "whole world to pick from"?
