Why such a huge emphasis on registration over actually vaccinating the public?  What's his game?  It makes one wonder.

At this rate when the Farang Vaccination Application finally arrives in August, it will look like two uniformed bureaucrats sitting at a table (because the online portal will still not work) who require you to provide them with all pages from your passport, copies of your yellow book or a residency certificate, pictures of you standing in front of your house and sitting on your bed, a map to your residence, and a negative PCR test taken in the last 24 hours, and proof of sufficient funds or insurance to cover hospitalization should you have an adverse reaction to the vaccine - all in order to register for a shot.  You'll then be handed a piece of paper with an appointment date in November in order to return to get a piece of paper granting you an appointment to possibly obtain a shot in 2022 dependent on at least 70% of Thai having been vaccinated first.  Of course, all of this is dependent on the direction the wind is blowing, how much rain Thailand gets this year, and what side of the bed the PM work up on in the morning.

I am not a big fan of giving this government too much personal information, but they probably want this registration information. Not necessarily for nefarious reasons. Just so they can see who and who is not vaccinated and see take up levels. Would help with the supply chain I suppose.

I understand why such centers are a bad idea. Some people will panic, with 6+ million registered, there will be a crowd at the center and when they run out of vaccines half way through the queue, arguments could arise. We know how Thais handle loss of face, so that could lead to significant unrest. Therefore I do agree that some kind of scheduling should be required at least for the initial rush, while once that is over, such rule could be relaxed.

 

So I see where he's coming from. But on the other hand, this is a result of incorrect strategy for the past year of putting all eggs into one basket (which is something Thailand historically always avoided). Had COVAX programme been joined, had discussions started with other manufacturers early, had vaccinations started early for predictable risk groups, the 3rd wave possibly would not happen at all.

There's a very simple one word response to your first paragraph and the start of your second paragraph.

 

That word is 'planning'.

 

The Thai government has many resources at it's disposal and the country has many capable people who could plan this activity well. E.g. highly capable/experienced people inside companies like SCG, CP, Central, PTT and more, plus more individuals like Khun Korn (have a look at his past impressive business and political achievements) and many more. 

 

But they rely on people like the man who did 4 years jail in Australia and similarly incapable people. Plus they talk over the top of each other valueless comments & proposals and overall with no coordination.

 

But the real losers are the wonderful people of Thailand who get treated like fools and the pandemic runs amok while the PM, deputy PMs, the generals in the senate and more create more and more chaos. 

 

So sad.

If AZ cant produce 60 mil doses in 6 months (10 mil a month)starting in 2 weeks the PM will be saying "WE NO HAVE" a lot

It doesn't, it gets denied that what was said was every truly said.  Unfortunately It is all about FACE, and instead of standing up and saying "Sorry good people of Thailand I have failed you" the people running the good ship lollipop will never let that happen.  Sad as the day is long.  Now you wonder why the infighting has started between the BMA and the CCSA and the Government MOPH has been told to butt out of Bangkok's Covid response.  However, that just means that vaccines will be withheld to make a point and bring the BMA folks to their knees and kowtow down to the Government.  My view and my opinion only.

They can work that out by recording the passport number or Thai ID of the individual when the vaccine is administered at the walk-in centre.

 

The registration app is to control who gets it, and when. Not who has already had it. Which is bad news for foreigners here because we're at the bottom of the list. In fact, as far as I know they still haven't developed the app for foreigners which given the level of software development expertise here (see the 90 day online reporting app as an example) is quite a worry.

Also not the smartest move, to locate the walk-in centres on top floors in a shopping mall.  Why not find any ground level facilities for this purpose? Do the shopping malls pay, to get a massive amount of potential customers walking through their premises?

That doesn't surprise me. A cousin of my wife is working in a factory at Bangkok. All employees received a first injection of Sinovac last week.

Priority is Bangkok and its cluster. No problem for me.

 

But why ALL ambassies/consulates in Thailand are not giving NOW vaccines for free to all their citizens in a country where the 3rd wave is booming ?
