Hospitals postpone Covid jabs amid delays in domestic AstraZeneca production

Some hospitals were being forced to postpone second rounds of Covid-19 inoculations as Siam Bioscience was falling behind in its scheduled production of the AstraZeneca vaccine, a news report said Monday.

 

Public hospitals such as Vajira, Chulabhorn, and Thammasat announced that they were short of vaccine stock over the weekend and will thus be delaying their scheduled shots, The Standard reported.

 

The report did not give details on the shortfall. Representatives of Siam Bioscience were not available for comment.

Oh, that can't be! We are told daily from many posters about Thailand masterful, world-class Covid response. It's among the best in the world.

 

It is very unusual in Thailand that anything fall behind schedule as Thais are world renown for punctuality.

my guess is the delay is all about accounting and AZ are not playing ball - they are not Chinese

You really have to feel for the average Thai, being very badly let down by their government, with their snail like pace of vaccines roll out.

It would be a shame if they broke the terms of their contract and it was terminated for some reason.

 

Like denying vaccines to foreigners or something like that.

In another article it mentioned that Anutin said Siam Bioscience are contractually obliged to deliver on time other get supplies from another country ...lol

Yep, nowt wrong with Sinovac. Better to have some protection than none and so far, there havent been any reports of negative reactions to it. Unlike some if the other brands out there

And then the complete lack of transparency, making what most surmise as a delay in the local production of AZ out to be "part of the plan".

 

Again, best to be honest with the people, even if you messed up and you might look bad.

 

It's also not so much about the staggering incompetence and malfeasance, sure those aren't great, but it's the prevarication which comes with the cover-up and makes the regime look truly wretched.

 

They'll dig their heels in, try to slather on more lipstick on this pig, and prosecute a few for spreading fake news and using the virus for "political purposes".

Mr. Anutin was referring to Thanathorn’s criticism of the government’s procurement of vaccine from Oxford-AstraZeneca via Siam Bioscience, a Thai pharmaceutical firm, founded by the late King Bhumibol in 2009 to manufacture medicines and medical equipment for domestic use at affordable prices and for export, to reduce Thailand’s dependence on imports of medical supplies. The late King also founded the Apexcela Company, a year later, to be the marketing arm for products manufactured by Siam Bioscience.

Sorry apparently supplies of "fresh air" are very limited in Thailand from ministers or any other source it's all tainted with countaminants!

I don't even understand this excuse. How does changing the production schedule - presumably to speed it up - result in delaying the initial tranche of vaccine?

The Thailand we all know & love... promise everything deliver nothing.

Prayuts plan all along was Siam Bioscience to come to the rescue...

The first rule of being an end supplier is you don't have your sole supply chain in one manufacturer, with only one supplier trying to keep up the demand, if it breaks down or can't keep up you're stuffed.

Eggs in one basket syndrome again.... but then what does a military chief know about supply & demand in a commercial world.

It's from the Maximum Obfuscation school of "covering up".

 

Not the last of the excuses we'll hear today.

 

For the record, 6 m doses were due in June. In April there were some unattributed leaks from the government, which mentioned that the June figure might be half (3 million?). Now it's down to 1.7 million.

 

Probably best to expect a mock-up of the vial and box in June.

This all-Thai policy because we are the best according to Uncle Tu and the second disastrous result of the 3.5 km high-speed line after 3 years of useless attempts ended up capitulating and paying the Chinese for everything to do the work, build a Covid vaccine production facility is on the same dead end.

i try not to do business here outside of ordering some noodles.
