Chonburi-The Pattaya City Mayor, Sonthaya Khunplome, spoke with the associated Thai press in Pattaya over the weekend, discussing the start of a mass vaccination campaign that began at various locations in Pattaya last week.

According to the Mayor, the start of the campaign had some “bumps in the road” and he was well aware that the number of vaccines was not sufficient for demand nor for the current plan to get at least 70% of the local community vaccinated before hopefully opening to vaccinated foreign tourists and “relaunching” the local tourist-reliant economy in October, per a current plan set by regional authorities and the Thai Tourism Authority.

The Mayor stated that Pattaya, which was the third most visited place by tourists in Thailand behind Bangkok and only slightly behind Phuket, and the 19th most visited place by tourists in the world in 2019, had been identified as a top priority zone by the Thai Government for economic recovery. Other priority zones are obviously Phuket, as well as Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Krabi, and several other locations.

They keep talking about the tourist zones vaccination while the clusters are in the jails, factories , and in bkk.

Just start to vaccinate all locals nationwide elderly first. People don't stay in one location so to vaccinate just some cities its useless.

The other disaster, after the tourism implosion... is this idea "with the vaccines everything will go back to normal".

It's really something deeply rooted in people's mind.

The poor Pattaya's mayor hang on to this likke a buoy...

But it's a profound mistake.

-vaccines do not prevent contamination : it means we will ALWAYS haves "cases" (even the classic asymptomatic cases)

-vaccines do not open the borders automatically and not stop compulsory quarantine (look at Germany : they close for UK, even vaccinated... because of "indian variant"... 2 weeks quarantine compulsory)

-and with 2 weeks quarantine, because we are all terrorized by the "variants".... tourists will NEVER come back.

Sorry mister mayor.

When the people will see this... then the psychological damages will be severe. Because they are all expecting a return to the "ancient world"....

Would like to know how we as expats can get the Moderna private hospital vaccine as the rest of the choices will be rather ineffective with the newer strains now coming into the country.

The previous vaccines have been stated as effective against the 2 strains recently found in Thailand. Being Indian and S. African, Pfizer and AZ. As to choice, you will need to wait a little but many hope it will be available as a paid for item.

They want to boost the tourism in Pattaya, It will be 2026 before tourism is back to normal, So why vaccinate people in Pattaya more and earlier than in the rest of the country.. There are better and nice places were tourists will go..... Please be fair and roll the vaccinated program over the whole country out . Do it at year of birth , but first get enough vaccines. All the people are important not only the ones who work in the tourism, and bars, and as pretties

Yes but CM HH and Phuket have been lobbying for special treatment and got it so now it's Pattaya's turn and there are more expats in Patts than anywhere else!

What's more important?  Public health and safety of the entire country - or - tourism revenues for certain "special" regions?

Money of course.  Public safety of the entire country takes a back-seat to Special Regions, Special Populations, and Special People with Special Interests.  TIT, correct?

In a sane world the emphasis would be the welfare of the population of the entire country before the welfare of a special segment of the population.  Not here though.
