Popular Post pagallim Posted May 30, 2021 Popular Post Share Posted May 30, 2021 Many of us resident Expats here in Thailand have Thai wives/partners/friends who in the event of our passing, either naturally or by accident, will not be familiar with our respective home countries notification requirements and ability to provide support. Even our respective Embassies and/or Consuls may not be able to provide full assistance unless they are made aware of other details than that contained in our passports. I think it worthwhile to consider what would help those we leave behind in what would undoubtably be a stressful and traumatic time for them. Think about making a check list of who to inform and their contact details. This could include other family or friends, pension providers, banks, insurance companies etc. Death certificates will almost certainly play a part, do these require to be translated? Everybodies personal circumstances are unique, so there isn't going to be a single route map of 'what to do'. It's worth checking with our respective Embassies on what they require for notification of death. Specifically for those who may have served in the Armed Forces and other organisations, regardless of country, many have charitable organisations who have a global network of support, be it financial and/or through help in some of the notification processes as part of their welfare support. It greatly helps these organisations if they know the branch of the Armed Forces, and the persons service number to validate qualification for assistance. I appreciate that this is a subject that many/most of us do not want to think about, however it's something worthwhile to reflect upon for a moment, and easing the burden of our death to those we leave behind is at the top of the list of what we can do for them. 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Agreed, particularly here where many are superstitious about such things. It can always be kept with other personal paperwork that would easily be found. Indeed, and I'm sure that many will have similar. The prompt of this post is through awareness of a situation in the provinces recently where the demise of a person has left his partner in a state of stress and confusion. I got chastised for talking to the gecko outside the house....apparently it's bad luck to call wild animals as they might be the reincarnations of some evil human from past lives...don't worry....me and the Gecko now pretend not to know each other when the GF is around.
