Why is the chicken so god damn expensive?

Last time I was shopping chicken cost 40 Baht/Kg and chicken carcass for my dog was 15 Baht/Kg.

Yesterday I went to Tesco and they want 61 Baht/Kg for chicken and 25 Baht/Kg for carcass. ???? Is there some great chicken shortage or something?

Was in Big C recently, boneless chicken breast 45b/ kg

Tesco, same product, 46b/kg and Makro around the same.

May be its just a local price issue, where are you ?

Pricing reeks of a cartel

The price of a lot of products in Thailand have gone up recently. What used to be 30 baht for fried rice is now 40-45 baht for most shops.

I used to buy dish of 3 dishes with rice for just 40 baht, now it's 50 to 70 baht depending on what you choose.

I'm in Sakon Nakhon.

I was in Marko, but out of principle refused to buy their 61 Baht boneless chicken breast. So on the way home I stopped in Tesco. And price was the same. It's not just one shop.

Like 4 months ago it was 40 Baht.

Of course, price goes up over time. But 50% in 4 months... .

we feed our dogs chicken, pork and chicken livers, very cheap in comparison to good quality canned dog food, better for them too .

Never made that comparison, good tip ! Ditch the canned give 'em cooked.

I suspect the 40baht per kilo chicken was an on-sale price, the 60ish baht chicken is the regular price.  I just came back from a year in the US......trust me, you won't find 60 baht per kilo chicken anywhere in the US.  Count your blessings!  Prices for a lot of products like meats/veggies/fruit fluctuate......those 20-baht-per-kilo-mangoes a month ago are bck up to 50 baht per kilo because the mango season is finished up.  Green onions......can go from 30 baht per kilo to 100 baht per kilo overnight....then back down to 30.
