Popular Post snoop1130
The Commerce Ministry reports that Thailand is calling on Vietnam to ease trade obstacles on sugar products and to facilitate drug registration, as well as land transportation at border checkpoints. Minister Jurin Laksanavisit said, after a discussion on Monday with Phan Chi Thanh, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Thailand, that the Commerce Ministry asked Vietnam to help relax protective trade measures on sugar imports from Thailand. Vietnam’s plan to reintroduce duties on raw sugar comes after the Vietnamese Industry and Trade Ministry conducted an anti-dumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) investigation, which started last September, following complaints by Vietnam sugar industry officials. The minister said the Thai government also called on Vietnam to relax complicated regulations on drug registration in Vietnam. He noted that Thai drug exporters have complained that the generic drug registration processes in Vietnam is more complicated and requires more documents than the ASEAN standard and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) requirements. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-06-08 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Just to be fair, Vietnam does have a very complicated registration regulations for drugs and chemicals. Thailand and Singapore have quite similar registration process and relatively easier. Vietnam registration regulations ignore data generated from overseas even from established technical bodies and insist on local data from their institutions which are muddled with corruption. This from my past 30 years experience as MD for an international chemical corporation.

Srikcir
This is why Thailand under Prayut cannot join CPTPP, it can't compete according to set trade agreements. It must have "thainess" flexibility to retaliate when trade isn't to its complete advantage. See Thailand's recent unilateral additional import tax on Phillip Morris cigarettes from The Philippines (member ASEAN), despite arbitration and World Court ruled such tax violated the trade agreement. PH would have underpriced Thailand produced cigarette prices as I recall. In turn Philippines placed and additional 40% import tax on Thai products. Such retaliation was legal.
BumGun
Isn't this what ASEAN is supposed to be for ? negotiate trade deals and facilitate less friction in trade between the member nations etc
