At what age did you actually start feeling old?

I often wonder at what age people start feeling old, especially as I see some blokes who seem to act very old, or at least stop acting young and I wonder if they are acting old because they feel old.

I just turned 54 but there is nothing about me that feel like I'm 50 something, in fact when I look at some 40 year olds I think they look much older. 

I still feel like I'm in my mid to late 20's mentally, and I'm still physically the same as I was in my very early 30's.    

Yet I meet some guys who are physically younger than me and they act like they are old, almost as if they are actively trying to act old.  

I realise that time is marching on and I will eventually start looking older, but when will I start acting like a miserable old fart that hates clubbing, stops dressing stylishly, gets grumpy about things and starts going on about how it was better "in my day"?   

Life is great, I have tons of friends here in Bangkok and things just seem to be getting better all the time, better tech, better video games, crypto currencies... so much cool stuff happening.

You'll start feeling it, when you feel it literally.

When your eyesight start fading, when your joints start to complain, when you can no longer eat certain things, when you gotta get up in the n8ght to pee,when all you can raise is a smile !

And yes all those things will come to most, the only thing that varies is WHEN ! but bet your ar** it will !

Never felt 'old' as such, but I have felt 'good' or 'not so good' as situations at a particular time have been the major influence.  I should feel old presently, however  not having to physically graft and having a regular income from pensions results in a certain calm leaving me feeling better than I did 30 years ago.

 

Other than when I'm driving, Thailand has another calming side effect too.

My final year of working when I let my beard grow for a year and it came out grey instead of brown like before. I felt like I was just going to retire and grow old and die. Shaving it off was the instant cure and I've not had those feelings again since.

I am 75 ,and only started realising I was getting old in the last year,my body is getting old, but my mind and outlook are still young, I

could easily lift a bottle of gas or crate of water ,now not so easy,

I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever reach 75, when

i was a young lad people over 65 years were looked on as ancient.

 

So wake up every morning ,wiggle my toes, Ah ! another day........ 

I still have things to do, places left on my to do list  Madagascar,Machu Picchu ,Easter Island, If I manage to do that I can rest in Peace.

I Have had a full life ,just about done everything I planned out for my life when I was 10 or 11 , I looked at maps , not comics , Wide World  was my favourite magazine,travel, treasures, strange peoples,

I became old at age 63 (65 now) when I suddenly couldn't wee after a returning (BPH) flight from a beer and party holiday to Saigon and Phnom Penh. Until that time it was all beer/party/hookers combined with trail running and mountain biking.

 

Age 52-62 were the wildest and most adventurous party years of my life.

 

Like Charlie says, at some age you will hit chronic illness and the party is over.

My brother in England said around the begining of the year he wished he was my age.

He didn't say why but I am 74 and he is 76 .  Compared to my father I think I am doing ok.

At 74 he was knackered but maybe because he worked in the city of London and started there as office boy when he was 15.  And during WW2 he still had to go to London every day.

My knees crack when I stand and I am sure with a lot of folk I get up to go for something then forget what I got up for.   But at what age did I start feeling old...........I can't remember.

Late 50s was for me, I started to just get general aches and pains that I never had before. I am now in my 70s and I have some ache or pain or odd thing happening to my body most days.

I'm about to turn 72 and I mostly feel about 40-50. Particularly good on the days I do my 40 minutes in the gym before brunch.

 

I remember a large organization I worked for a couple of decades ago in Oz. One year they held a birthday celebration for everyone who was turning 50 that year. There were about 30 or 40 of them all lined up. From their looks you would have thought they ranged in age from 30 to 70.

I started feeling old when I was in my late forties. I'd often find myself thinking 'huh, kids of today...' or 'when I was younger....' etc.

It only really hit me when , as a pilot, I reached the age at which I could not longer fly airline  fare paying passengers   I could fly cargo, just not people.  Although I knew it was coming of course, the shock realisation was hard to take.  It probably took 2 years for me to accept the inevitable that I was, effectively, now an old man, although I didn't feel old ; still don't really.  The irony was that I could still operate as a line check pilot for younger crew, That was almost insulting.

As a Seaman, I also realized my age when I could no longer inflate my dinghy! ????

But I try to remember its not thesize of your dinghy but the motion of the ocean! Avast Ye Mateys!

I think the sign of getting old for me was when I was no longer interested in bonking a woman two or three times in the space of a couple of hours, and once was enough.

It's wonderful if we feel young but it's even better if other people see in us what we (want to) see.

Most people think I am younger than I am. I guess one reason is that I don't have any grey hair until now and enough hair on my head.

I don't feel "old" but realistically I have to admit:

- There was a time when I could drink a lot until 2am, wake up at 7am and work productive the whole day. Not anymore.

- There was a time when I had sex for hours, and then some more. That's was some time ago...

- When I was in school my mother lay down on the sofa for an hour after lunch. It seems that was something for old people. Now I like to lay down for an hour after lunch.

- The list goes on and on.

 

I still like sexy cute (legal) girls who could by now be my grand daughters. And they are nice enough to make me feel young. But I guess it's better that I don't ask them if they think I am old...

My mind isnt old,but after my heart attack my body can no longer do what it used to do, still i can walk,drive,laugh with the wife.why should i complain,i never thought i would reach my age anyway.

I think it's not only when junior does not perform as much anymore.

Part is also that when we get older we are just not as horny anymore.

Like: Could I do it with 2 or 3 girls in one night? Probably yes. But do i want to? Normally I am tired after the first one.

There is truth in that old saying, "your only as old as those you feel" wife is 40 this year, so I feel 40, when I can manage to grab a young filly 21-23, I feel 21-23, why not, life wasn't meant to feel your age by not doing the things you want to do.

 

It does also help to eat right, exercise a little and take vitamins B12, D, C, Magnesium and Zink along with a multi-vitamin.

 

Have to say, for a 61 year old I feel blessed to feel younger, besides sex as often as possible is better than the cardio machine or lifting some light weights, less pain, and more enjoyable.

I love my beard and wouldnt want to remove it form any reason, although Mrs P is not a fan, she just has to put up with an older mans prerogative. .

I started feeling old when I got divorced and no longer had a vision for the future. Just living day to day isn't enough for a happy life, and having too much time to think about my many ailments isn't helping to overcome them.
