But remember when they say 70% of the population needs to be vaccinated, for purposes of whether Phuket is ready for the Sandbox to start, people who are fully vaccinated are counted AND people who have received just one (1) dose of AstraZeneca are also counted. So at the time the data for this graphic were produced Phuket was a lot closer to the 61% than the 28. The data is a few days old and vaccination has been ongoing daily.
spidermike007
What about the possibility of the administration deliberately trying to sabotage tourism, so their rich friends can come in and swoop up resort properties at 60% off? Too cynical? Impossible? Hope so. But, with these creeps, the moral degradation seems to know no bounds. And common sense, logic, and reason, do not seem to apply to any aspect of this fiasco. 1

spidermike007
I know some Thais who put their life savings into trying to save their businesses on Samui. And failed, as every effort was sabotaged by Pratin. Same applies to Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi, Lanta, CM, and other spots. This is a national tragedy. And who is to blame? Well, the spread could have likely been contained back in December with a 14 day, 2km. radius (of the seafood market area with 900 plus infections in one day) lockdown of Samut. So, the Pratin pair are to blame. Fair and square. Entirely on their small and feeble shoulders. Take the heat boys. You messed up badly. Popular Post hansgruber
Let me tell you. The banks are in panic mode. Repossession only leaves overpriced assets on their books. I know of Thai people who can't repay their mortgage but the bank has said nevermind and accepted a much lower payment just to keep the repossession off the books. When you have the bank pleading for you to stay in your home you know things are bad right now in Thailand.

However, when you are playing with an industry that represents $110,000,000,000 a year in revenue for the Thai economy, a full 20% of the total, there has to be more in play, than simple incompetence. The agenda has to be more sinister and far reaching. Nothing else makes sense. It does feel like some form of sabotage. Whether or not it was deliberate, will we ever know? Popular Post robsamui
I've been living on Samui for a long time, and my little local restaurant lady is something of an expert at keeping up with all the Covid news - in fact I go there frequently just to check if I'm interpreting the local news correctly. I asked her a few days ago if she's worried about lots of new tourists (!!) coming in soon. Her reply? "I'm not worried about the tourists; they've all had the full course of jabs and they're getting quality vaccines. But they won't be coming for a long time yet as this government is making such a mess of everything. No, what I'm worried about is Thai tourists coming from the mainland. The way things are none of us (Thais) on Samui can know if they are properly vaccinated and the certificates and checks they get are not reliable, and some are coming here and they've only had one jab. A lot of Thai people think that's all they need." As it happens it's a family business and there's no rent to pay and the utility bills are just about covered by the odd handful of retired expats that go in there. But it's devastating for those who are less fortunate. Edited June 18, 2021 by robsamui 3
