Health officials in Thailand on Sunday reported 2,804 new COVID-19 and 18 more fatalities.

409 of the new cases were linked to prisons.

Despite the occasional single day spike in cases (as seen on Saturday), Thailand’s cases have fallen significantly since its record of almost 10,000 new cases was reported less than one month ago.

Sunday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 195,909 with 1,449 deaths.

The news comes as Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha announced on Saturday that a number of businesses will be allowed to reopen from Monday (June 14).

“After careful consideration, the relaxation can go ahead as planned,” he said.

“The outbreak situation is now at a controllable level and residents of Bangkok, especially those in these businesses, have already received vaccinations.”

Businesses allowed to reopen include beauty clinics, massage shops for foot massage only, tattoo parlours and nail salons.

Public parks and museums in the capital will also be allowed to open.

The numbers haven't exploded with this UK variant like it did in many other countries that had daily deaths in the hundreds and even thousands.

Looks like the stringent measures they have enforced along with the public that has largely complied has made a huge difference and saved thousands of lives.

With a bit of luck hopefully it further fizzles out and businesses on the brink will be saved also.

We are not out of the woods yet, but it is looking promising.

Yes it definitely looks like that wether it is like that is the question as looks can be deceiving I was once told.I was also told not to judge a book by it's cover especially when it's covered in green slime.

Lower number today, I hope its nothing to do with a reclassification of how they count their covid deaths as hinted at by CCSA. 18 dead still 18 too many however and 1 more than road deaths yesterday.

24 hour road accident report for 12/6/2021: 17 deaths and 1,767 injuries.

How do you explain the relatively low number of deaths then? A major coverup? I will wait for your response.

The low number of deaths might be explained by the fact that in Thailand Covid has not been more deadly than the flu has been in the recent past.
