oldcarguy
Some of the Japanese cars have the "plastic" wire covering made out of some "Soi based " stuff that seems to attact mice and rats , There is some Honda "chili" tape https://www.thedrive.com/tech/33236/hondas-chili-flavored-wire-wrap-could-save-your-car-from-a-rodent-invasion

notrub
Thank you all for good ideas and sharing experiences. The poison works by turning their blood to cement or some such thing so they dry out. Mothballs an rat spray seem like the best solution. It is my own fault really as I use those plastic baskets for keeping things and groceries in the boot. Setting them beside the car with rags in no doubt invited the mice to make a nest there and they just moved into the car when I put the basket back. Thanks again. Iron Tongue
You do not want to poison them. They'll die and stink up your car. Drive them away with moth balls as suggested. Use lots.
